Visiting London for work, and after a long day, we were ready for dinner - except it's a bank holiday! We walked around a bit, and thankfully stumbled on The Hope before long. 2 pies and cold brews later, we are happy, satisfied, and ready to face the world again. Wonderfully hospitable Tim made sure we had everything we needed, but once we dug into the delicious masterpieces in front of us, all was right with the world. We devoured a MooDog (a steak bacon and ale pie) and Chicken Aragon (a chicken bacon and tarragon pie) and enjoyed the friendly surroundings. The Hope was the perfect combination of great food, beer, and atmosphere.

Popular small pub within a stones throw of Smithfield Market. I love the bullion glass front. The bar itself is pretty small but there is a Gin Parlour upstairs; albeit closed on the Saturday evening that I visited. The pub fair is pie-based and there is a good lunchtime meal deal going on. The reviews regarding the staff are pretty varied - from rude to really friendly. On Saturday they were neither. COVID edit: This place re-opened a little later than most but, nevertheless, it’s really COVID secure. Had a great chat with Mona and most definitely upped my rating!

I work at a hotel in the United States and a guest there from the UK, upon hearing I was coming to London, gave me a list of restaurants to try and The Hope was included for their “legendary pies” which certainly did not disappoint. Nestled on a bed of mashed potatoes I had the Mothership beef and ale pie smothered in peas and onions- quite delicious. It was in the middle of a hot summer day in August - Jess, and Daisie were facilitating and they could not have been more hospitable. Would highly recommend. Thanks gang!

Roughly 7pm my partner and I were told we could go upstairs by the manager of the hope as there were no seats downstairs or outside. Upstairs was pretty empty with the 3 other people there leaving within 10mins. The bar man upstairs proceeded to tell my partner and I that he had no time for people who drank wine with a glass of water and along with a few other similar remarks made us feel uncomfortable. I told him he was being rude as we had been offered to go upstairs to this now empty bar with our bottle of wine and some water. He changed his tune saying he wasn't being rude and that the difference was we had a bottle.......the barman has partially dreaded hair and is white. We were made to feel very...

Fantastic hidden gem of a pub, right by Smithfield Market.

Popped in with my hubby as we are on an overnight visit from Cardiff.

Treated ourselves to the Pieminister 'Moo & Blue' and 'Mooless Moo' with all the trimmings - aka the Mothership option - and we both absolutely devoured them.

Staff were warm, friendly and happy to chat. Kat, Jess and Denise made us feel very welcome.

The downstairs Saloon Bar feels like a pleasantly familiar, small-town taproom, but also full of lovely local historical touches - vintage maps and photos of Smithfield Market. There is a second seating area upstairs but we didn't explore that.

Access was excellent for my powered wheelchair, with level access...

It took an hour and a half for our food to be served, with 30 minutes between the first and last plate arriving (2 of our table had finished eating before the rest were even served)

They had lost half the tables tickets and didn't apologise when they realised the error (instead resorting to arguing with one another). When the final plates of food finally arrived the server shouted at the entire table when one of the diners asked her to clarify which meal she was holding in her hand.

Being understaffed / losing track of tickets is one thing but shouting at customers after a one and a half hour wait for food is another. Amongst the worst customer service I've ever...
