Came for dinner for my wife’s birthday. Vibe was decent (Saturday night), service was average - the hostess looking after us looked basically angry at the start, rude and not helpful in explaining the menu, but eventually calmed down when I asked her to take it slow and explain. The food orders are not easy to work out, especially when you have a hostess like we did at the start. We were a party of 4, no one properly explained to us how much we should order! Eventually, we just ordered one of everything and two portions of the prawns, which were very very average and very over-cooked.
Anyway, I was expecting some big things given the rave reviews, but food was alright, and not sure I could actually taste or smell the wood fire in any of the dishes. Isn’t that the point also? The best bit was the Beef in the main course (the Embers section). We ordered seconds, it was really good. Starters (or the sashimi essentially) were not bad at all, but not mind blowing either. The Prawns in the third section and the Monkfish in the mains, were both below par of what I would expect in a place like this.
The service was a let down - restaurant waiters (and our hostess in particular) felt frazzled by what should be a regular Saturday night service for them. Had to ask for wine to be poured, we couldn’t actually understand any of the explanations being given at the time of service, our hostess wasn’t too pleasant, she got the bill wrong at the end, and there was just too much going on in the place. (Ostensibly they took the bill back to remove the charge for the Milk pudding we didn’t like, but the bill came back more than it was before. I had to ask why this was the case and our hostess didn’t bother to tell us that they had forgotten to charge us for something and that’s the reason she took the bill back!).
It’s a good place to come with friends & family for wine and drinks and some respectable food; but I wouldn’t come here expecting a mind-blowing culinary or service experience. Food is good, but not great. Has a good vibe and cool place to come for a good night out. It is an expensive place in particular given the portion sizes, but I wouldn’t expect anything less for its location. But at this price point, I would expect a mostly impeccable dining...

Dining at HUMO is like being swept away by an orchestra of taste and aroma—each dish a carefully composed note, every course a crescendo. From the moment I stepped into this intimate Mayfair spot, I knew I was in for something extraordinary. The chef here doesn’t just cook; he conducts. The kitchen ran like a finely tuned orchestra, with every member playing their part to perfection. The smoky scents drifting from the open fire grill felt both decadent and inviting, setting the stage for a meal that was anything but ordinary. I left my meal in the hands of my waiter, and I’m so glad I did. The journey began with Bluefin tuna and caviar—a luxurious, melt-in-your-mouth opener that set a high bar. Next came the Garden Salad, which was, hands down, the most spectacular salad I’ve ever experienced. Imagine oak-smoked Cornish Agria potatoes, wild rocket, ash-grown herbs, tardivo, frisée, coriander, sugar snaps, and a surprising rokko miso dressing. Each bite was bright, fresh, and completely unexpected. Then came the scallop: hand-dived Orkney scallop paired with white nectarine and finished with a 12-year Speyside Balvenie whisky sabayon. The flavours were so gentle yet deeply satisfying—unlike anything I’ve tasted before. For my main, I tried monkfish for the very first time: four-day aged Devon monkfish, served with burnt sweetcorn, HUMO XO, courgette, and puffed wild rice. The textures and smoky undertones were simply out of this world. I never imagined monkfish could be so memorable. What makes HUMO truly special is the meticulous attention to detail in every dish and the passion that radiates from the chef and his team. This isn’t just a meal—it’s a food extravaganza, an experience that lingers long after the last bite. HUMO is a quaint, exotic, and exceptional restaurant that deserves a standing ovation. I wholeheartedly recommend you visit and let yourself be swept away by this culinary symphony....

What made our experience at Humo even more exceptional was the meticulous attention to every detail. The staff were not just attentive but also knowledgeable, providing us with spot-on recommendations and insights into the perfect wine pairings.
The ambiance struck a harmonious balance between modern sophistication and relaxed comfort, creating an environment that was both upscale and inviting.
However, it's worth noting that the portions at Humo are on the smaller side. While some might find this surprising, we found that the quality and richness of the food made each bite thoroughly satisfying and worth it. It's a reminder that great things often come in small packages, and in the case of Humo, each dish is a testament to this adage.
