This review is for the police team at Oxford Circus underground station.

As I was coming out the st I saw 3 police questioning 2 young (black) boys, checking their personal phones and writing notes. Boys at their ages 15-16 didn’t look ok, having their back at the wall, upset and anxious. Apparently they came up to Oxford St to have fun with their lovely outfits and hairs.

I watched the scene about 15 minutes and approached the police asking why they have stopped the boys and what’s taking so long and why they have been searching their phones.

They ignored me and said ‘you can ask them’ I asked the boys whether they are ok, they said police told them they looked suspicious.

Another police officer came up to answer my questions and used following sentences:

  1. it’s a random search, the dog smells people and police stop them - I then asked if the dog smelled these boys, police officer said no.

  2. they find it suspicious that one of the boys carry 2 phones - I asked what’s wrong about it. Officer said ‘do you have 2 phones’ I said it’s not their business.

  3. at one stage I asked the officer to speak slower as I didn’t get what he was saying, he then asked my nationality, I again said ‘not their business’

The boys were given a paper explaining they were screened, they let go.

You should have seen their faces, for gods sake they are kids trying to have fun in the evening after school!

They weren’t able to speak, they were in shock. I then encouraged them to have fun and don’t let the white police ruin their evening and said that they don’t have to show their phones or answer any question asked and that they can call their parents.

It’s a shame how the police made them scared and maybe hate this country where whitewashed through centuries.

To the police - find the real criminals and drug dealers not far away from where you are. Stop ruining young people’s well-being and leave black people alone. Enough...
