I was visiting my Mother in law in Carshalton and decided to try out II-MA SUSHI. For starters, they don't offer a great selection of specialty rolls (Special Maki) only 4 options. Additionally, you choose whether you want 5 pieces for £13 or 10 pieces for £19. Those prices are ridiculous but since I wanted to eat sushi I decided to give it a shot since the reviews are pretty high. I ordered the ii-ma roll (avocado, eel, cucumber with mustard mayo sauce). The roll barely had any eel inside. The sauce was different and tasted good. I ordered the ebi roll (maki) which was tempura prawn with asparagus. I asked them to add avocado and they charged me an extra £1 for it. I also had the cream cheese salmkn avo roll (maki). Nothing spectacular. The rice on all of the rolls was tough. It definitely was not sticky rice. It tasted more like 2 day old rice. Lastly, I ordered the chicken gyoza (pan fried dumplings). It was decent.

Overall, I wasn't impressed at all. I had to wait 30 minutes for takeaway. The ladies at the counter were very pleasant upon my arrival which is the reason I'm giving this place 3 stars.

They offer dine in option but honestly, the place is so small, when I was entering /leaving the venue I had to squeeze through tables and people because it was so tight inside. I personally would not dine in but to each is own.

Cost: Special maki £13 + 2 Maki rolls £14.50+ Chicken...

Before we visited the restaurant, we looked at the pictures and reviews left previously and we were very excited! When we had food, we ordered Chirashi don(assorted fish with rice) + Ume sushi set + Tempura don, both quality and quantity were quite disappointing.

The assorted sashimi provided with Chirashi don, they were so thin so you could see through... I was not impressed at all.

For Tempura don, the batter with prawns was not crispy and not as airy as it should be that you would expect as Tempura. It was just boring prawn fry. Besides there were only 3 and the mirin(sweet cooking drink) they added to the rice was not cooked so I could smell very strong alcohol in the rice which was not so great either.

Ume sushi set we paid £11 but I think Wasabi sushi set might be much better…

I revisited the reviews left again today, they were mainly left more than 2 years.... the restaurant is not the same I assume. I would not go there again, the recent visit was...

Had an absolutely amazing meal here last night, everything we ate (and we ate far too much!) was delicious and beautifully presented. I’d call it a hidden gem but it’s not exactly hidden - so conveniently located opposite the station! Really reasonably priced, too. Definitely my new go-to local spot when I get a sushi craving.

Update August 2025: Still an absolutely 10/10 experience here. We’re moving away, and this is the only place in Sutton we said we absolutely must visit again before we leave, and will definitely come back to when in the area in future. Our must-order items include the yasai tempura roll, iima Mori (perfect sashimi set), ume q (lovely pickled plum and cucumber rolls), and wakame (seaweed) salad. One of the things I love the most about ii-ma is that you can come in and have a delicious filling meal and a beer for under £20, or go all out with some incredible sashimi and sake. Service is perfect and the atmosphere is cosy...

ii-ma Sushi Restaurant is a hidden gem in Sutton, offering an authentic taste of Japan. Though small, the restaurant has a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, with traditional Japanese décor and soft Japanese music playing in the background. From the moment you step in, it feels as if you’ve been transported to Japan. Run by Japanese owners, the restaurant serves high-quality, fresh sushi with an impressive selection, including hotate (scallops), sweet prawns, and a variety of fish. The flavours are delicate yet rich, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients. In addition to sushi, they offer delicious Japanese desserts, which are a perfect way to end the meal. The staff are friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant in Sutton, ii-ma Sushi is definitely worth a visit.

Atmosphere-the Japanese music is relaxing, small seating area but it's very cosy with lots of traditional Japanese decor. Service-very kind wait or made sure to check the food didn't have any allergens I was allergic to. When I order my food. And he gave us FREE MISO SOUP which was piping hot. what a gentleman! I love miso soup 😋 Food- sushi was very good, the rice was well made and not made to tight. The salmon sushi was really good very fatty! The Yakisoba wasnt my favourite, the chicken was very dry. The Unagidon was very yummy, slightly too much sauce as it was very salty. I found it surprising that they added peas, didn't really mind it although you could change it to edamame beans to make it more authentic to Japanese cuisine. Thankyou so much for the food. I recommend this place for their amazing sushi 🍣 x

You can try sushi dishes made by traditional artisan chefs that can only be tasted in Japan. I especially recommend sushi salad. this dish goes well with the warm Japanese traditional sake, so it's perfect for dinners with couples and colleagues. Located in front of Sutton Station, the sushi rolls are affordable. The staff service adds to the food taste, and the restaurant atmosphere in particular has warmth that can be felt only in the Japanese countryside. And there are plenty of parking spaces near Sutton station after 6:30PM It would be better to make a reservation in advance. Lastly, the chef looks so cool ~~
