This used to be a lovely pub and my local when I lived in Dartmouth Park. I visited yesterday after nearly 2 years away and was very disappointed to see how much this place has changed. I got the feeling management were waiting to close down the pub which is really sad given how great this used to be. During my visit yesterday there were hardly any beers left on tap and the pub only offered 2 white wines, one of which they had to dispose of as undrinkable. This is despite a fairly long wine list on the website and I have to add that the 2 wines available werenât even on the wine list! We had roast and, despite portions being fairly generous, the quality of the food was very poor. The pork belly was replaced by 2 thick and dry slices of pork loin, a different cut of meat altogether. The potatoes were soggy and the Yorkshire pudding a small flat thing. Itâs such a pity to see such a great pub become a shadow of its former self. I hope management will put some efforts in to bring it back to its...
Read moreBeen here a couple of times now. Each time it's been fairly empty, but the bartenders are friendly.
Overall, it's a quiet, relaxing local - but expensive! Two and a half pints cost us just under 12 quid! Then again, we were drinking Hoegaarden... I'm just glad to have a local pub that serves a beer I love on tap.
I finally tried the food last time I was here. I ordered gazpacho but it took close to an hour to get it because the guy forgot to put my order in... even though there were only two or three other groups at the pub and I was one of two people ordering something from the bar in about a 20 minute time period. They made up for it by giving me a free pint, but still!
It's not my favourite place by any means, but it's one of the better locals - even though the constant emptiness is a little odd - and has a decent beer selection. I'll likely be back next time I'm in the mood...
Read moreJust to caveat I never ever leave bad reviews. So after spending ages trying to get a waitresses attention we tried to order our starters and then were told they had run out. We ordered bread to start instead and after chasing twice it never came so we eventually gave up. Any service received was only because we had to chase it, eg. ordering food, getting menus, getting the bill. It was like we were invisible. The ladies toilets were out of order so I was directed to toilets upstairs (I had to figure out where the upstairs were) and the doors were covered in wet paint which I got all over my hand. After chasing for the dessert menu they then had completely forgotten they gave it to us so it took ages for us to get someone to take our order again. The food was good though, canât complain about that but would never go back just based on the...
