I love all types of food and love trying new places, so today it was Khana Khazan on my list to try. Mind you, I have been to this place years ago; long before the revamp and remember it being very tasty food, although back then the restaurant was cramped and dated.

It has been modernized, very clean and spacious, everything neat and tidy, definitely a plus. Upon arrival a waitress told us to find a table and sit, we could sit anywhere, she was friendly enough. Once we looked through the menu, the same waitress told us when we know what to order; to go to the counter and place the order, somewhat disappointing they don't take order from the table, any decent restaurant should take orders from the table really. Been a long time since I have experienced that I must admit (except fast food restaurants and Nandos maybe lol). Ordering from the counter means you pay before eat, which is not a problem I guess.

We had Grill Chicken, which tasted somewhat okay, nothing special, not something you would go out of your way to have again, It wasn't bad either. Chicken Biryani was a bit bland, portion was okay, enough to share between two people with other food. It's okay to be fair, again nothing special. Lamb dish which they claim is a 900 years old recipe, was probably the biggest disappointment, not because it wasn't nice, it was okay for sure, but nothing special, I guess the 900 years old recipe claim made me expect something really tasty, it fell well below my expectations. Meat was soft, juicy, meat sauce was nice too, but unfortunately I have had better in so many other places. Butter Nan just didn't cut it, felt like something missing, note, maybe seve Nan in a hot plate so it doesn't get cold too quick.

Last but not least, Diet Pepsi, they charge £1.20, which is reasonable, but it tasted horrible, straight away I realised it must be foreign import cans, it didn't taste like regular diet pepsi. Disappointed with that, why not serve regular UK Pepsi, if it means you have to charge a few pence more it's not a big deal, rather then having to serve cheap imported cans.

Overall, although I wasn't totally disappointed with my visit, I probably won't rush to visit again. Worth a try if you are in the area, but don't expect...

An amazing restaurant with great food. I went there a few days ago and I ordered a lamb kebab, chicken burger, masala chips, garlic naan and a palak paneer. Amazing. The flavours in the Palak Paneer were great though it lacked a bit of spiciness. The Lamb Kebab came sizzling on a charcoal plate, I had one bite and it was sizzling throughout. It not only had flavour, but also brings you back to the first time you ever had a Kebab. It was simply astonishing and came with a lemon on top :p The Chicken Burger was fairly mediocre, you wouldn't expect it to be an amazing burger since thats more fast food like. It was still pretty good though :) The Masala Chips were pretty tasty, it had bursting flavours with a bit of tanginess which was pretty unexpected but good in the end.

I do recommend as all of this was £27.96 which was a really good price considering the expense of other restaurants. It also had good quality food. I was left full and satisfied.

Let's get onto the service. All you really needed to do was either ask or they'd come up to you! When entering, you would usually be greeted by a server who would take you to your table. She had good manners and answered all our questions as i'm more of an introvert so i'm not too good at stuff in restaurants or anything more extroverted. I checked the menu and it had a wide variety of foods. I found what i wanted and went up to the counter to order. There was a nice single file line where we had to wait and it wasn't much time till I had to order. I simply placed my order with the cashier, she gave me a receipt and I sat down at my table. It was about 6 minutes till I received my first order and the waiter was very polite and he laid the food out on our table neatly. I had some leftover food so the waiters gave me a tiffin. I put my leftovers into there and left. It was a great experience and as stated, i'm an introvert so i'm not really used to going to restaurants etc but this time was simply amazing, the service and atmosphere made me feel as if I was eating at home.

I...

In the Forest Gate area, Khana Khazana stood out for being one of the best looking restaurants when passing by, which also has very good reviews and it was relatively busy. Also seeing it is a Pakistan restaurant, confirmed the decision to eat here as I've been wanting to explore this cuisine for a while. I know there are similarities with Pakistani and Indian cuisines due to history, yet I made sure to have a dish never tried before. There are a good range of options on the menu, with us choosing the Lamb Biryani and the Lamb Bhaditarka (which is made from a 900 year old recipe). We ordered some poppadoms with chutneys to start, also ordering a sides of pilau rice and a garlic naan. When we ordered our food the Manager saw we weren't South Asian descent, and kindly asked our level of spice tolerance (no problem, we're Jamaican). This was great customer service, to help ensure we had a nice comfortable experience; though authenticity is what I love so there was no need to hold back. The justification on how good the food is here even before I took a first bite, were all the other customers. Though Biryani is a common dish in South Asian households, the Lamb Biryani had was extremely well cooked; being very tasty with a nice amount of spice and good cuts of meat. However it was the Lamb Bhaditarka that was the best dish I had. As described in the menu the meat would almost melt in your mouth, with the taste being extremely satisfying with the spices used that left me wanting more. I'd asked a member of staff if Lamb Bhaditarka was a Pakistani dish as I'm curious about the country's cuisine, however I was informed it is a Mughlai cuisine dish. Learning this makes me want to explore cuisines of South Asia so much more to learn of the differences, so I'll definitely return to Khana Khazana again!
