Brilliant and lovely cafe.
This is my favourite cafe, even though I've tried hundreds of cafes in many places, for a number of reasons - staff, food, drink, environment and location.
The staff here are fantastic. They are friendly, professional, efficient and always provide outstanding service. They're happy to cater for individual tastes and needs; they are great people and it shows by how many customers here are regulars and known by name.
The food and drinks are delicious, fresh, prepared with care. There is a great range of options, from the traditional full English to quiches, croissants, fruit, baguettes, etc. My full English was (and always is here) perfect. A generous plate of high quality ingredients, well seasoned, served piping hot without waiting long.
The coffees are expertly prepared (I usually get a soy cappuccino which is much better here than any chain coffee shops). It's a great place to grab a drink on the go, as the quality is great and they're made efficiently.
The seating area is very relaxing and clean. It's split level and has good decor, lots of daylight, lots of comfy chairs arranged in either 2s or 4s and can be moved. So whether you're coming on your own or as a couple or group, there are spacious places to sit. There are outside tables at the front too, which is good for smokers or those keeping an eye on the car or just basking in the sunshine.
It has free wifi which is fast and reliable. Because everything is nice here, it's a great place to get online and catch up on stuff.
The prices are cheaper than some others in the area and given the quality of food, drink and service, the value here is amazing. A full English costs under £7.
I've tried many coffee shops and cafes in my time, especially all over London. But this is one of very few that ticks all my boxes and the friendly atmosphere edges it above all others...

Read moreIf you walk in and you're the only customer then you'll have a decent breakfast served by robotic staff without much fuss.
If there's more than about three people in here then the staff will start looking at the floor and losing their minds (because apparently working in a cafe on Richmond Hill isn't good enough for some people). As a result dirty dishes will pile up on the tables and the slightly aggressive dark-haired girl behind the counter with all the friendly charisma of a nightclub bouncer will tell you, unapologetically, that you'll have to wait ages for your food.
Needs a new owner and new staff (except the blonde girl who does show some understanding of how to do these things properly).
On the whole though L'Amandine is currently a how-to in bad service that makes Fawlty Towers look like a well-oiled machine.
Just go...
