Disappointed by the Experience – Poor Value and Dismissive Attitude. Disappointed by the Experience – Poor Value and Dismissive Attitude

I recently visited La Chingada with high expectations based on local buzz, but unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired.

To begin with, the value for money is extremely questionable. I was charged £9 for two miniature tacos—barely more than a couple of bites each. When I raised concerns about the portion size and pricing, my feedback was met not with receptiveness, but with resistance and a dismissive tone. I was told, rather adamantly, that this was “economical” compared to other Mexican spots in the area.

The policy of discontinuing burrito service after 5 p.m. was also perplexing staff stated it was “bad for business,” yet offered no alternative aside from rice, which could only be added as part of a £15 set meal. This rigid pricing structure feels more exploitative than accommodating.

Additionally, the cleanliness of the venue was subpar. The tables were so sticky that lifting the laminated menu produced a peeling sound, and some of the ink actually transferred onto the table’s surface an unpleasant and avoidable hygiene issue.

I’m always willing to support independent establishments, and constructive feedback should be part of that exchange. However, the overall experience here—marked by overpriced portions, inflexible service, and poor sanitation—makes it difficult to recommend La Chingada. I hope the management takes this as an opportunity to reassess their pricing, service policies, and...

EDIT: owner/manager has rang in regards to my review. Reading other 1 star reviews on here tells me he was ready to give a mouthful. I hung up and shall not be threatened to amend my post. I await their unprofessional response under this.

Don’t come here….. sorry not sorry. Food is nothing to celebrate. We were looking so forward to come here but the food was shockingly inedible.

Ordered the vegan corn starter. We forced ourselves to eat it out of embarrassment. It was bland and looked sad. If this white corn is traditional to Mexico then okay - it still tasted as ghastly as it looked.

The vegan tacos were destroyed with spice. And I can handle spice. The pineapple was the only saving grace to help calm your pallet. Limited understanding of how fantastic vegan food can be. Spice ruined it all.

My boyfriend got the lamb birria tacos which you had to pay for the birria sauce separately - since when was this a thing??? Although he said it was too rich. He also had the chicken taco (inedible and chicken we recommend to be shredded instead, not whole, and the green peppers did not compliment the dish at all).

The lady serving us was delightful and very sweet so shout out to her. The design of the place is great. Good selection of cocktails. The place was nearly full by the time we were leaving and the one young lady (Wed 5th Nov) was left to look after the entire place herself as well as make the cocktails. She was more than capable and ran the show fantastically but just hope she gets the right support at...

reviews older than november 2024 are from a different restaurant! Not the nee taco place We have been to the other branch in Surrey quays of la chingada many times and wanted to scout out this new opening. The menu has either changed slightly or is different here from surrey quays (no burritos for example) but has still some of the classics that are so yummy alongside new things like enchiladas. We did try the enchiladas verdes on top of our usual order but didn't enjoy it as it felt very soggy and the green wasn't the bright green we had expected. That might just be us though and that might be exactly how it's supposed to be (we don't claim to be Mexican food connoisseurs) so overall it's still incredibly tasty. I recommend the chicken tostadas and the beef tacos these are my favourite (we ate them so quickly i didnt get pictures!). Also the layout of this branch is a lot nicer as opposed to the surrey quays one, service was just a bit slow and we didn't get any of the dishes together unfortunately but i expect this is due to having just opened and didn't heavily impact our experience (I saw other groups who did get dishes together so it probably isn't an issue :)). Will...

Great local spot! We had the chicken alambre and a pork empanada and prawn and octopus tostada to start — all defo hit the spot. Tried the Baja prawn, suadero (got a bit of a kick to it but yummy!) and pastor tacos; all were delicious, with the pastor definitely bringing the spice in the best way. Loved the strawberry margarita and the hibiscus iced tea with mezcal. Finished with a Modelo, tres leches, and even got a tequila shot on the house. Great food, great drinks, great service - so glad this is in the neighbourhood!
