After reading the reviews online my partner decided to bring me here to celebrate my new job. First impressions were bad, it’s extremely deceptive compared to how it’s pictured on the website, it’s very dark and gloomy, there was no obvious sign outside, especially as we came in the dark so we drove past it twice. The sign outside could do with some light decor. Prior to coming to Mango Room my partner called to book the table and informed them of my new job celebration and had asked the waitress if she could make the table look somewhat fancy/different to the other tables as a surprise for me in which she agreed to doing. When we arrived he asked her where the table was and she said “pick whatever table you want” meaning she completely disregarded his request. After receiving the menu that was broken and looked extremely cheap and flimsy for the prices they charge, I also realised the food was very overpriced. I asked the waitress for the set menu and she said that only gets provided for groups of people over 10. It didn’t state that on the website and can be misconstrued as false advertisement. I can not believe for one small portioned size jerk chicken it cost £13 - alone - you then have to pay extra for a side which is around 3.50-4.00. When reluctantly ordering the food which was Jerk chicken rice & peas, we also requested coleslaw and dumplings, the waitress replied “we don’t do coleslaw or dumplings here, the owner doesn’t like it” ... it’s not about what the owner doesn’t like it’s about your food audience. How can you run a Caribbean restaurant without coleslaw or dumplings? It’s key in West Indian food. I found that to be very obscured. The waitress then said “it’s fine dining, we don’t do that here”... I did not know consuming dumplings and coleslaw meant it was not fine dining. Whilst waiting for my food, I asked for some water & the waitress brought out a jug of water which seemed to have a booger stain on the side, very very off putting. When the food eventually came out in which waiting time wasn’t long because the restaurant wasn’t busy, the plates were extremely hot, it seemed as though the chef just reheated/microwaved the rice and peas causing the dish within itself to be piping hot to the point where I couldn’t even hold it and had to messily dish out the rice myself with the small spoon provided. The rice and peas were extremely overcooked and stodgy, there was hardly any gravy with the jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was undercooked, had no flavour whatsoever and did not fall of the bone with basic sweet pepper slice and red onions for decoration. The plantain was extremely undercooked, very burnt on the outside and tasted wet, clumpy and soggy on the inside - I’ve never tasted plantain so renk. The waitress did give us complimentary tulip glasses of champagne, which was nice. My partner did say that he enjoyed his curry goat which was very tender, he had that with plain rice. Overall I feel this restaurant is extremely overrated, extortionate and wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. The only pros were the company I had and leaving. I would’ve much preferred going turtle bay, the atmosphere and decor is so much better and you get your monies worth. Turtle Bay is extremely commercial so this is a huge compliment to them as I’m not too fond of them either.

Booked for a 65th birthday for 6 adults and baby last Sunday from 1pm and literally had the entire restaurant to ourselves!! Art on wall very vibrant and decor in general feels like you could easily be transported into a restaurant in the Caribbean. The one waitress who worked on that day was polite and friendly. We could see the kitchen and only saw one chef who somehow managed to cook our entire meals by himself without making us wait for ages!?! Food was tasty and flavoursome however coming from a West Indian background we felt it was missing that spicy-ness and "tang" we'd expect from Caribbean food. Nevertheless each meals from starters to desert were nicely presented. The alcoholic cocktails were mixed nicely. They offered a a drink to the birthday man on the house which was a nice sweet touch. Not sure how well service would have been had the restaurant been full as it did feel quite laid-back but I'm sure it would have been just as friendly and polite. The dishes that stood out for me were the prawn and tempura fish starters, the mango sauce used for the fish dishes and the crème brûlée (banana and mango I think). I ordered the snapper which tasted like it wasn't as fresh as I would have expected but was ok. Overall good effort from the chef to deliver varied dishes with good presentation however he shouldn't hold back with the true spices that real Carribbean food needs and deserves!

Very disappointing! I was overjoyed to learn that one of my favourite restaurants was open again, I called them up and discovered the location had changed but the chefs were the same... We were seating on a table for 4 people but the tables were different height sizes, but okay thats fine I guess... It was freezing in there which left me feeling like I wanted to keep my coat on the whole time... I was a loyal customer perviously and loved their curry goat and roti, along with the coconut curry chicken and rice... the curry goat came warm and the roti hot... the coconut chicken was awful and not anything like it was previously, also the basmati rice wasn't up to its usual light and fluffy standard as it used to be at the establishment. Note to owners and chefs... please stop chargrilling your food, it alters the flavours and its way too much on a roti and the coconut chicken. your rice and peas didn't taste fresh and the basmati rice wasn't great. The chef seems different... The cake wasn't great either, the only thing which were really good were the cocktails. We ordered the rum special and mojitos both were really good. Unfortunately I won't be returning back here, which is a shame... it's on the same dreadful level as Turtlebay which is sad.

Visited mango room yesterday in celebration of my cousin's graduation and I cannot describe how awful my experience was.

We were given a set menu which had numerous options and I was quite pleased reviewing it and saw there was a wide range of dishes to choose from.

I chose, cod fritters for my starter and the "Camden famous curry goat" as my main. I was served 2 minuscule fritters and a very wilted salad in the middle as a garnish. Absolutely awful. I come from a creole background and our cuisine is very close, if not identical to Caribbean; so I know how these dishes should taste. The fritters were about 1% fish, 99% dough and 0% flavour. Extremely disappointing.

My main of curry goat was served in a bowl, the rice and plaintain served in seperate bowls to share amongst the table of 20. Curry goat is not made to be served in a bowl like soup which you then add rice to... You put your curry on the rice not the other way round. I can understand the contemporary twist they tried to add but a seperate plate should have been provided so we could eat it properly.

Further to that, I have gone home and be woken up out of my sleep to throw up as I have now contracted food poisoning. The goat meat was clearly not fresh, I could taste the grainy texture from the meat as I was eating and again, the flavour was 0% swimming in a pool of gravy (NOT THE WAY CURRY GOAT SHOULD BE SERVED).

To say I am disappointed with my experience would be an understatement.

I should have known when we had a booking for 8pm on a Friday night and when I walked in, the restaurant was unexpectedly empty.

If you are after authentic Caribbean cuisine DO NOT VISIT HERE. Awful service! And one of the bar maids is not even allowed to serve alcohol although she is clearly of age, she said this was due to the owner/management saying she is not appropriately trained to do so.

Absolute bullocks.

Wish I had taken on the American tradition of not paying for a service and meal when it's crap.

I will be heavily advising my peers to NEVER visit here.

Thanks but no...

Went to the Mango Rooms Restaurant to celebrate my brothers birthday. (2nd July) The worst service I have ever encountered from any restaurant. Trouble from the onset starting with not knowing of the booking after someone had already called my brother to confirm it.(apparently it seems it was confirmed under someone else's name) don't ask me how that is even possible the mind boggles. Next messed up orders, ask for rose got red, plus drinks not coming together one by one service, but still got it wrong, then after I thought they had manage to clench it out comes rose wine again. Nobody knew what they were doing including the so called manager. The food for me wasn't bad but then I can cook and can do just as well myself. When I first went to this restaurant it was good and had good potential now I'm afraid if they don't pull their socks up pronto the will soon be out of business. How can you run a Caribbean restaurant with not one caribbean person serving in site not even the welcoming hostess all of which whose first language in very apparently not English. Is it cheap pay, well it certainly will cost you, the service in there was simply deplorable I certainly will not be making a comeback there nor shall i recommend it those star ratings that have been acquired certainly now need to be removed.

P s don't pull any race card on this comment if they had all been West Indians serving in there with that service last night I would be even more scathing with my remarks if that is at...
