Shame, the food was dreadful. My wife ordered the root soup, which was far too salty and overly rich with cream. I couldn't have more than a spoonful. She also had the Parmigiana and it was incredibly salty and thick with clumps of congealed cheese - far, far too much cheese. I had the Kedgeree which was again super salty and creamy - we figure the chef thinks his cooking is bad so tops everything off with loads of salt and cream hoping no one will notice. I also had the beef dripping chips on the side, they were huge (more like wedges/potato halves) overdone, tepid, hard as rocks and unpleasant to eat - the potato inside the thick, hard casing of triple-fried grease (or however they got them to hold so much fat) wasn't soft or tasty either. The 'gherkin mayo' that came with it just tasted just like regular mayo and only had the slightest hint of green pastel colour. Ew. Friends had scones with ice cream which come as broken bits of scone in rusty ("shabby chic" haha) bowls. Naturally, everything that could be served on old, questionably-clean wooden chopping boards was - even salad. Bizarre. It is obviously very overpriced (it is in London after all, everywhere seems to get away with ridiculous prices for crap food) - it thinks it's a gastropub but the...

Tucked away on Randolph Street, The Colonel Fawcett is more than just a pub—it’s a personality. With its cast-iron spiral staircase, mismatched vintage chairs, and sun-drenched patios front and back, it feels like stepping into a storybook version of London’s pub culture: quirky, charming, and full of life.
The food walks a fine line between comfort and craft. Think modern British fare with a seasonal twist—crispy pork belly, vibrant veggie roasts, and a Sunday lunch that (usually) earns its reputation. While consistency can wobble, when it’s good, it’s very good: generous portions, bold flavors, and a kitchen that doesn’t shy away from ambition.
Drinks are a highlight. With 14 craft beer lines, over 100 gins, and a wine list that’s both affordable and thoughtful, there’s something for every mood—from casual pint to celebratory toast. The vibe shifts through the week: comedy nights upstairs, quiz Wednesdays, DJs on weekends. It’s a place that knows how to entertain without losing its soul.
Service ranges from friendly and attentive to occasionally scattered, especially during peak hours. But there’s heart here—staff who care, regulars who linger, and a sense of community that’s...
Read more30+ of us booked a corner to celebrate the completion of our play. We booked the section on the left with pre-dinner drinks and a sit-down dinner. A menu was specially designed for us to fit our budget. All food items were great, the pork croquettes, marinated bavette, beetroot focaccia, pork belly, pumpkin risotto and Lincolnshire sausages. The chef also made us a Guinness chocolate cake and prune Victorian cake. The food is definitely way above typical bar food quality. We were pleasantly surprised.
Being relatively new to the UK and London, it’s the first time many of us stayed so late in a neighbourhood pub. The crowd was super friendly. And they kept on coming even after midnight. We had a wonderful time drinking and dancing after dinner.
Ryan, our server, did a wonderful job. Many didn’t remember what they pre-ordered. Many were not paying much attention when the courses were being served, some were late. We also had a video to be projected. Ryan helped us sort everything out with patience, and a smiley face, and a lot of sweat. Seeing him literally running around reminded us of efficiency and service dedication back in Hong Kong and made us feel at home.
Thanks for making our celebration a memorable evening. We will...
