I thought I would visit this restaurant as I have been meaning to go here after seeing many good reviews online.

I had an afternoon booking for 3pm. I was a bit late but we was still greeted with a warm welcome on arrival. We was shown the menu and decided to choose Stamp & Go, which is basically salt fish fritter balls. They tasted lovely and it came nice and hot. However for £7.95 I would have expected at least 2 or 3 more Stamp & Go’s. I think 3 wasn’t quiet enough especially as they were quiet small! 😩🤦🏽‍♀️. For my main I had the Escovich Seabass fillet with creamy mash. The Escovoch seabass fillet was very very nice, HOWEVER the creamy mash that came with it wasn’t quite creamy. It was extremely runny! I had to ask the waiter is this the mash? She said it was. She offered to take it back to the kitchen, but I declined as our main took over 30 min to be brought out to us and I didn’t want to wait any longer for a replacement, as I was very hungry lol. Again I think the portion was quite small for the price (£24.50), and think they could have put the smash underneath the fish on a plate, rather than in two separate bowls.

For my dessertI decided to have the apple crumble with custard. I waited patiently for my dessert to come out…… this took over 30 min again, only to be told there was no custard! 🤦🏽‍♀️. I decided to cancel my order.

My friend however continued to wait patiently for her dessert to come out…. And then the waiter brought me out my dessert with a tiny bit of custard lol. I was told this was on the house… !😊. I’m guessing there wasn’t quiet enough custard, hence why they told me there wasn’t none left, but they decided to still bring me the little they had. I thought this was very nice of them 👌🏽. Unfortunately the apple crumble wasn’t very nice and the taste just wasn’t quiet right. I think the apples were made with too much Cinnamon, and the crumble was over cooked. I ended up not finishing it as I didn’t like the taste.

I really liked this restaurant overall. The food was very nice and the staff and customer service that me and my friend received was EXCELLENT!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. The only thing that let the customer service down was the girl standing by the door. As we left she looked down on the floor & made no eye contact with us as we walked past her. A simple smile and goodbye would have been nice & courteous given that all the other staff were very friendly, professional and polite!

I would definitely visit Maroon restaurant again. Their rum punch cocktail was perfect 😍 10/10! and the ascetics inside was lovely. They had comfortable clean seating inside and a nice bar area If you just want a drink.

Thank you Maroon Restaurant for making my first visit an enjoyable one.

I'm honestly so disappointed in my experience at this place. My boyfriend and I had booked a table for 5pm- he did this over the phone and physically spoke to one of the members of staff, however when we arrived, it turns out they hadn't even bothered to book it so we were stood by the bar for around 40 minutes waiting for a table to be sorted for us. As time went on, none of the staff had acknowledged us or given us any updates about how long it would be until we were seated... When trying to get the staff's attention, they would just swiftly walk past as if they couldn't see or hear us? Eventually we got to sit down and we ordered our food straight away, we weren't given a drinks menu until we had to ask ourselves, we were left with the menu and then it was another 30 minutes until someone actually came back to take our order, and even after we had ordered our drinks, we spotted them just being left at the bar on the side for another prolonged amount of time until one of the waitresses noticed us just sat there looking over at them... the food didn't take as long as everything else but when we received the plates, my boyfriend's Yorkshire pudding was cold, I found the rice and peas very undercooked, we had about 3 skinny carrots each, the pot of gravy that they give you is tiny itself but was still only half full and the chicken was very dry and I could not taste "honey glaze" or "jerk" whatsoever I ended up leaving most of it, it lacked quality, authenticity seemed very far from the Caribbean cuisine that I'm used to. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese which they'd forgotten to give to us until we had to remind them half way through our meal... When it was time to pay, the staff would again pretend that they couldn't see us raising our hands or trying to get attention, they seemed very carless, unbothered and had no sense of urgency when it came to us. We actually ended up just getting up ourselves so we could just pay and leave as quickly as possible. At times, there were absolutely no floor staff to be seen anywhere in the restaurant. Furthermore, the manager didn't seem to care much more than her employees, she was very quiet and seemed like she didn't want to talk to us half the time... I don't think ill be going back here or recommending it to anyone, it was a prime example of why you should not judge a book...

So disappointing! I am gutted at how good the meal could have & should have been but it was terrible. I ordered the Sunday roast beef, Latin style - medium rare. The meat was supposed to be herb roasted with chimichurri on it. None of that happened....the meat was tough and dry. It must have been cooked next to a piece of lamb as it almost tasted more like plain lamb rather than herbed roast beef. There was a small pile of some kind of crunched up green stuff that tasted more like seasweed snack. It definitely was not chimichurri which is normally the consistency of pesto and full of nice flavours. There was to be some roasted veggies - I got 2 pieces of potato, a parsnip, and 2 pieces of carrot. There were 2 pieces of cooked plaintain that were missing there usual hint of sweet and were dry. The red pea stew puree I think was brushed onto the plate just enough for colour. And there was no gravy for the Yorkshire pudding, so basically a dry biscuit. You might ask why didnt I say something to my server, any server - because none came around for over 20 mins. If they had, they might have even sold me a 2nd mixed drink. I thought I would try a dessert and some tea - thinking this would be easy. It was only 5pm and they had run out of milk for the tea. I had to use double cream. There are convenience shops and express groceries everywhere. How do you run out of milk for tea, in London??? I had ordered the churros which were to come with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce. The chocolate sauce was burned. The churros were flavourless and missing their signature cinnamon sugar. And they plated it on a warm plate so the ice cream was soup. I had to go to the bar to get my bill. I didn't ask for anything special, I wasn't rude to anyone, I didn't snap fingers or say "hey you". I was polite, always please and thank you. But still some of the worst service and most disappointing food since I arrived here, from Canada, 4 months ago. I have some very good S American and Portuguese friends I wanted to bring here, but so glad I didn't. £56...

🍽 FOOD / DRINK: Maroon presents a culinary journey like no other, seamlessly blending the vibrant flavours of Caribbean and South American cuisines into a delightful fusion. The menu is a testament to the chef's creativity, offering a range of dishes that cater to diverse palates. The Ackee Empanada, Stamp & Go and Pan Roasted Shell-on King Prawns were a divine start, setting the stage for the culinary adventure ahead. The Jerk Whole Sea Bream and Curry Goat Pie were standout mains, complemented by sides of perfectly fried plantain and dumplings with a tantalizing sauce. The dessert selection, featuring Bananas Fritters, Warm Churros with Raspberry Coulis and a speechless Crumble with ice cream, was a sweet symphony to conclude the gastronomic journey. Their cocktails gave me a harmonious blend of exotic flavours that transported me to the sun-kissed shores of the Caribbean. Special mention goes to the Blue Mountains coffee, rounding off the meal with perfection 💡 ENVIRONMENT: Maroon transports diners to the heart of the Caribbean with its sophisticated ambiance, adorned with imagery reflecting the region's rich culture. The colours synonymous with Latin American culture infuse warmth into the space, creating a tropical haven in Herne Hill 💰 PRICE: Maroon offers a refreshing take on Caribbean and South American fusion dining at reasonable prices. The culinary experience provides excellent value for money. The use of high-quality ingredients and the chef's expertise in crafting unique fusion dishes make every penny spent worthwhile. It's a rare find to encounter such culinary innovation without breaking the bank, making Maroon an affordable luxury for those seeking a taste of the Caribbean in London 👨‍🍳 STAFF / SERVICE: the super-talented chefs at Maroon elevate the dining experience with their culinary prowess, ensuring each dish is a masterpiece. The staff, especially the cheerful and skillful Isaac, adds a personal touch to the service. Isaac's recommendations were spot-on, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the meal and creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere

Visited yesterday in the evening. I shared the prawn starter with a friend and it was really very tasty - the shell's a little irritating but it was so flavourful, it was worth it. I then had the curry goat pie for main which came with very smooth mashed potato. It sat on a bed of kale (I think) - lovely texture and the sauce was pleasant too. The pie was ok and if anything unusual and very filling. We ordered a side of mac cheese and about that I'm very fussy but I have to say, it was delicious - once again very tasty with a yummy, crust ... the best I've had in some time. My friend had the sea bream which she allowed me to taste. Now this was definitely the best but way too many bones!!! It took her ages to eat because she had to keep stopping to remove them. If they could retain the flavour but fillet it (& yes, I know bones aid flavour but it's not impossible ) then Wow, it'd be my 'go to' for sure. For drinks, I’d give the Kingston Mule cocktail a try. Nice - just the right side of potent. The non-alcohol mango drink was also very good. There were a few negatives though - we ordered a pina colado which was way too weak and watery. They changed it graciously so that was good. The waiter was friendly and respectful but not very knowledgeable about the menu. He had to keeping leaving us to answer our queries. My friend had to ask if he was new, which of course he was. Hopefully he'll get on top of it all soonest. Also, my friend said that she'd recently been to their other branch, 'Nanny Marroon' in Soho. I hadn’t heard of it. She said the menu was way more vast so she struggled a bit with the limited menu at Maroons - I agreed. Especially on the mains … it'd be great if there were a few other choices. Having said that, all in all, I would visit again. A very nice evening.
