My family is Caribbean (West Indian) my aunty is Trinidadian, my Godmother is Guyanese, my grandad is Indian, my parents are Jamaican. My aunty used to send us to this shop when we were in school and the roti was lovely.
I recently remembered this place and decided to stop and buy two curry goat roti’s totalling £31. It was the driest, tasteless roti I’ve ever had. The meat was dry and the curry mostly potato hard potato at that. The roti was not authentic roti with chickpea and it was too small to fold like your supposed to be able to do with roti.
I was so disappointed that I had to go back and try them again because I didn’t remember it being this bad when I was younger. But I think it was definitely different people there before.
The next time our order came to £41 as we bought drinks and two patties. We let them know it was dry last time they reassured us it wouldn't be dry this time. Well… they gave more sauce but the meet was still dry indicating they are over cooking the meat and the seasoning was so fresh I could taste the pimento. The roti bread clearly isn’t freshly made as it wasn’t soft. We didn’t enjoy it at all. It tasted terrible. All we could taste was pepper and dry meat. This shop got £72 pounds from us for the most terrible tasting roti’s.
Next time I will be asking my uncle to make some as he makes it how it should be made or I will drive that little bit further to roti Joupa in Clapham.
Such a waste of money. Very...
Read moreAfter occasionally passing here for over 10 years, I finally decided to give it a go after seeing people post about them on TikTok. My parents are Guyanese so I was looking forward to finding a new go to for authentic home cooked food. We went on Friday lunchtime and it was quite busy. We decided to try a few different things to share. We ordered the chicken curry in roti, pholourie, saltfish cake and a patty. There seems to be a lot of gluten free options, lots of different cakes and homemade pepper sauce and achar. The chicken curry roti wrap, was tasty a bit salty but authentic in flavour and is very different from usual Indian curries. There was too much curry sauce and it was a bit messy to eat, should have been more of a roll like a burrito. Good size portion, £11 8/10. The saltfish cake was good but didn't really taste the saltfish and it would have been nice to have some mango sour with the saltfish cake. 7/10. The patty was okay but not memorable. 6/10. The pholourie, was terrible. I had high expectations beforehand but looking at them I should have known better. £4.50 for 7. 4 were small 3 were tiny. And they were more flour than split peas. Very disappointed, 3/10. Overall, I would recommend the chicken curry roti wrap but skip everything else. Prices are quite high which may be because some things are gluten free. Veg patty and saltfish cake had no price but total spend was...
Read moreJust got Sunday dinner (after waiting 25minutes) in consisting of supposedly chicken and pumpkin Roti which was in fact blended pumpkin with 3 lumps of chicken! Which cost 7.50 ! Also purchased curry chicken and Roti which tasted like chicken and water as it had been watered down extremely after travelling home and noticing the lack of quality of the meals I phoned to enquire why the quality of the food was so Low, only to be told 'I rushed the food I should of cooked it for longer' that doesn't compensate I spent out £16 for a set of meals that were in edible to the point they were thrown in the dustbin, customer service was average in shop but after complaint phone was hung up and no resolution ? Guess my 2 pound slush puppy which was the only edible thing to consume, so, so, so, disappointing needless to say I will not be going back and will advising all friends and relatives to steer clear, being of Trinidadian heritage I'm aware how this cuisine should taste and if its traditional home cooked food your after you will be highly...
