Visited here on Sunday afternoon, it was relatively quiet with a few other families already seated. We came in and were immediately shown to our table, we had not booked in advance. There were 6 of us and we were given a booth which was comfortable enough for all of us to sit. Menus were already on the table and after a short while we had decided on what we wanted and ordered our meals. Turn around time was actually quicker than I was expecting. They first served the starters we had ordered and then within a few minutes everyone had their meals on the table. Food presentation was excellent, everything looked fresh and smelt delicious.
Without question, the food was delicious. Tasty and flavorful meat, good portion sizes and delivered to the table on wooden boards which added to the authenticity of the place. We ordered two meals from the kids menu, two from the lunch menu and two burgers. Additionally we ordered a sharing starter and a side of battered onion rings. We also ordered churros for dessert.
Total cost for 6 of us to eat to our fill and possibly more was about £64. Just over £10 per head.
There are a couple of reasons I have dropped a star. Firstly, there is a problem with the front door, it doesn't shut properly unless you really push it closed. Because of this, there is always a draft of cold air running through. The staff were always trying to close the door but as delivery drivers and customers came and went, the door would inevitably be left ajar. Finally, I dropped a star because the churros did not taste as good as they should have. They were quite hard, even on the inside which was a bit of a disappointment after such great food. But we will chalk this to a one off.
Other than that, cannot fault the place. Good staff, good food, good...
Read moreDO NOT GO TO THIS OVERPRICED RESTAURANT!! Food was extremely poor, not fresh and tasted bitter for what it was. I dont normally leave a review but I felt I had to on this occasion. Ordered a 'Hot Link Sausage' - paid £4.50 for just ONE SAUSAGE cut in slices dressed with pepper/pickle. Like seriously?!! What's worse is the sausage tasted awful and bitter. On another occasion, ordered a Rib Burger £10.50 - was clearly old meat, CHEWY and would not breakdown to a point where I had to spit it out as I was practically gagging. How can you charge such premium prices for such poor quality food? £11 for a BURGER (nothing else, no sides or anything), £5 for ONE SAUSAGE?! They also charge £8 for a simple HOT-DOG!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Agh that makes me so angry! A hot-dog is a simple, cheap fast food you can buy from anywhere, and this place isn't doing anything special to warrant a charge of £8! You get a bun, 1x hot-dog, onions, ketchup and mustard sauce... I've seen street food charge £1 for this! And the atmosphere isnt so great either to pay £8!
Also while I'm here, the staff member was very rude over the phone on a separate occasion when trying to ask about the opening times?! She didn't even bother saying hello, or introducing her/the business? I felt I called the wrong number and had to really force an answer out of her because she was almost so unhelpful and rude. Again I do not leave reviews normally, and nor am I over-acting but seriously something is clearly wrong with the food/service. I have been to this restaurant before and it wasn't too bad, but I certainly will not step foot in this place again and encourage others to think twice about eating from...
Read moreMisleading menu, overpriced food and terrible service!!! The braised "ribs" are not really ribs in the traditional sense, rather they are a kind of slow cooked pulled-meat style dish served on a dry rib bone. Considering they are priced at £15.80 for a half portion and £28.80 for a full portion I would expect to get a side (either fries or coleslaw) included in the cost of the meal but this was not the case. Our food was flavourless and the quality was well below average. For these reasons I think this restaurant is out of touch with their customers and ridiculously overpriced. However disappointing the food was, the service was even worse than the food! We were initially seated under the air-conditioning unit and when we asked if we could move to another table because we were cold (there were at least 4 other tables available at the time) the wait staff appeared very put out by this simple request. Our waitress didn't even say "hello" or look at us when taking our order. She made no eye contact and just starred at the ipad she was entering our order into and was borderline unfriendly. When removing our plates and taking our payment neither the waitress nor the manager asked if we enjoyed our meal or even said "thank you and goodbye". At £50 for 2 x half portion ribs, 2 x sides and 2 x small milkshakes I would much rather have taken my money elsewhere and will not be recommending Meat & Shake to anyone. The only reaon I have given them 1 star on this review is because the milkshake flavours were interesting and they were the only item we ordered that...
