Very, VERY, happy to report that south of the Thames is no longer a barren wasteland of average coffee shops. For years we have had to head north of the river for a really decent espresso based drink, but with our introduction to Moonstruck no more. They opened whilst we were away in South Africa & chanced upon them on the walk back from breakfast at Gailâs, on our first morning back in London, what a glorious start to our tenure back in the UK. The Cortado was delicious with a great depth of flavour and rich body. With the accompanying Cinnamon bun very YUMMY! The bun itself was moist, not overly spiced and delicately sweet. Nicely different from the typical cinnamon bun found in the Scandi cafes. We then tried a decaf Cortado & it was not a compromise when compared to the caffeinated version, with just a slightly lighter body. This then presented the option to try their Cardamom bun (typically sells out, so come early) and W-O-W, I now know why! The Best Iâve eaten & possibly my new most favourite bit of decadent sweetness. I wonât bother describing, you need to get here early & try it for...
Read moreI donât usually leave reviews but my experience at Moonstruck was quite upsetting. I live around the corner and like to think of myself as a regular local client who chooses to support them instead of going to either Gailâs/pret that is also on the same Road. However, when I asked for an iced matcha latte yesterday which was ÂŁ4.60 by the way, definately one of the more expensive matchaâs in London the below image was what I was served. A 3/4 filled cup. There was originally less and when I asked for more milk please in a polite manner the lady serving seemed taken aback and proceeded to add a splash. I think when you pay ÂŁ4.60 the least you expect is a full cup which is mostly milk anyway. They are clearly stingy and after the passive aggressiveness I wonât...
Read moreI found this beautiful cafe after checking the area and reading the reviews.
Unfortunately, as someone who drinks double espresso, I was so disappointed by the weak/diluted (?) coffee but more so by the atrocious price. Paying close to ÂŁ4 (ÂŁ3.70 actual price) for a double espresso is shocking and by far the most expensive I have had in London (Gailâs is ÂŁ3.10 for comparison).
This is a shame as the other coffees seem reasonably priced for the area (ÂŁ4 for a flat white), and they donât charge extra for alternative milk. The pastries also looked delicious, but I canât comment as I didnât try any.
I wonât come back for the double espresso, but perhaps for a flat white or...
