Mr Fogg’s is becoming a very popular chain in London. Starting off in Mayfair five years ago, it now also has two venues in Covent Garden and a brand new bar in Fitzrovia.
The bars are named after the famous Phileas J. Fogg, Esq. who embarked upon his journey around the world on 2 October 1872. He had a bet with members of the Reform Club that he could complete his trip within 80 days. Cue detectives, crime, love and surprise, Mr Fogg somehow managed to win his wager!
During his travels, Mr Fogg made friends with some of the world’s most valued scientists, botanists and cultivators of herbaceous wonders. The new bar in Fitzrovia is aptly named the House of Botanicals to display this assortment of articles.
As you arrive, the beauty of the plants and the gorgeous white spiral staircase immediately wows you. Walk ins are able to experience the downstairs bar but you need a reservation for upstairs. The botanical theme is even more pronounced upstairs with floral seating, beautiful plants and flowers and, of course, a couple of large globes! It is all table service upstairs and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
The cocktail menu upstairs is based on “The Language of Flowers”. Mr Fogg says that flowers speak a language clear and intelligible. You must observe them, love them, linger over them and ask your own heart if they do not speak of affection, benevolence and piety. There are 12 cocktails to chose from, all inspired from different flowers and feelings.
We loved the sound of all the cocktails and thought the inventive nature just added to the experience. We choose Pink Rose (£12) representing Courtship with Hendrick’s Irbium gin, Lazzaroni maraschino liquer, pink rose & lime cordial, lemon and egg white. It was such a gorgeous cocktail and was floral, fresh and light.
The Cherry Blossom cocktail (£13) represented Beauty with Star of Bombay gin, Evangelista Ratafia liquer, falernum, almond, pineapple, lime and sakura tea foam. The cocktail was served in a dome in a cup and was sweet nutty and aromatic with hints of cherry bakewell!
The Viola (£12) signified respect and has VII Hills Gin, Yellow Charteuse Herbal Liqueur, Crème De Violette Liqueur, yoghurt powder, chamomile, lemon curd and egg white. It was creamy, delicate and sour and went down rather well!
Lastly, we tried the Apple Blossom (£12) was a mixture of rum, verde liqueur, a port reduction and apple and pomegranate juices. This was a little sweet for my liking and had too much ice in -we definitely preferred the others.
Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals Bar in Fitzrovia is just gorgeous! The choice of cocktails were excellent, the staff were so friendly and the decor is amazing. The downstairs bar is still beautiful and is more informal (and cheaper!) than upstairs. This bar is definitely...
Read moreI can't regret enough. A total waste of money. It was unfortunate that I ended up in this restaurant just to accompany my gfriend because she really wanted to try out this place, probably duped by some paid fake reviews capturing her attention. We came here for so called bottomless brunch which was nothing like that. And they charge a whopping £48+forceful service charge, totalling to apprx. £53 per person. They have limited food options to serve for the brunch and only thing bottomless is the 'bellinis', apparently cocktails, but that too, they will serve you the ingredients and will ask you to make it yourself, in the name of some apparent experience package, where by again, all you have to do, is to mix the pre made ingredients, in your glass, stir it, and drink it whatever it tastes like!! Congratulations, you had an experience, viola!! And this bottomless, as well, is that, they will keep giving you the ingredients for 90 mins. Bottomless ends after 90 mins!! OMG..what a loss!! Not many options are available for vegetarians. I will say only enough of this for now as I can keep going on indefinitely, as I am suffering from PTSD after realising what I paid for the 'Nothing' i got. On top of all this, they have the courtesy to add a service charge, for 'NOT' providing any services. All in all, it's a total waste of time and money. Not worth it, even to waste your time thinking about it, unless maybe, you're a millionaire and have enough cash to burn, in which case I'd suggest, to rather donate it to a charity, or please give it to me. The only thing I'll give a positive review to, is the interior decoration, which is also just ok too. Go to Dishoom for breakfast or lunch or brunch, it would be a much better proposition, or maybe to that little restaurant at the corner of the end the street nearby your house in your locality, you'll probably have a better experience there, better taste, better food, a better service, and all this for a fraction of the...
Read moreDissapointing afternoon tea for the price. I went here on Saturday with 2 friends visiting, I have to say for £50+ each (including 15% service charge) the sandwiches, cakes and tea pot cocktails were very basic and not just not the standard I would expect. I've spent the same price at other afternoon teas in London and had amazing experiences or incredible food and this was neither. The cocktails looked great but were no different to the sort of thing you can get in all bar one 2 for 1 cocktails. You get a standard set of traditional finger sandwiches but they were just plain and on basic white bread, the cakes and scone all seemed a bit stale and the pavlova while nice is just so boring and cheap to make. I dont see where the price is actually coming from, it would be so easy for them to improve this, scones are the easiest thing to make i don't understand how they can have rubbish scones, they would have been better with a pack from tesco.
The interior is a bit tired with tattered fake plants and frayed leaves everywhere, i think this is a bit of a tourist trap and making money from people wanting an Instagram post rather than good cocktails and food. I will say the staff were all really attentive. I can get over a dispointing afternoon tea but I was mainly disapointed neither of the cocktails we had were up to what I expected from a gin themed bar.
Do not recommend, for afternoon tea at all, for that price you can go somewhere much nicer I've been to the OXO tower for the same price and that was amazing or if you want a fun themed one the potion room at cutter and squide isn't much more and its cheesy fun with...
