Nice food, uncomfortable service and atmosphere
I have no complaints about the food, however it felt a bit odd that the staff silently came over and just started cooking the food for us. We thought they were perhaps just getting it started but they just kept adding food to the hot plate so my friend asked if we could cook it ourselves. The staff were strangely silent, they didn't explain what their normal method was or say 'no problem' or anything when we said we wanted to cook ourselves, they just stepped away silently. When they did step away, two waitresses were standing literally behind my 2 family members' chairs opposite me watching us. We were being stared at almost the entire time by 2-3 members of staff, it felt very awkward. I kept looking at one of the waitresses and smiling to see if she would get the hint that I could see her looking at me but they continued to stare. The male member of staff came over mid way and continued cooking food on the hot plate for us, again no explanation just silently came over, started cooking for us. I had to ask a second time if we could cook ourselves, he silently walked away. As we were getting close to the end of the meal I was telling my mum which final pieces of meat would be for who as I added them onto the grill, the waiter then came over as I was talking and said 'don't you want your mushrooms?' - I was going to cook them in my own time, I'm unsure why he felt the need to intervene, so it ended up just feeling like we were being pressured/rushed to finish eating.
I would not come here again based on the dining experience alone, it was very uncomfortable and I didn't feel welcome at all. There were 2 other tables with Asian families seated who did not have this happen to them, they were just left to enjoy their meals. If the waiting staff had simply explained at the start that they would cook the food, or acknowledge that we wanted to cook ourselves that would have helped but it was very confusing and alienating just having silent waiting staff intervening, and not even say anything at all when we said we wanted to cook - I assumed this was the norm, to cook for yourself, if they had spoken to us at all perhaps this could have been clarified but who knows!
Note to the restaurant - simply communicate your method to the customer, please use words, any words at all instead of silence. We still don't know whether you cooked for us because you assumed we didn't know any better, or whether this is just a standard practice your restaurant uses. If you are going to watch the customers eat to be helpful or attentive, please don't stand next to them, step further away because this is very...
Read moreGood food, good service, but questionable CCTV/security measure, attitude and follow-up.
On Thursday, my bag was stolen during dinner here. When I realised and asked for CCTV, one of the restaurant staff/owner, instead of reassuring me and/or being helpful at first instead, asked me immediately why wouldn’t I look after my own belongings as if it was my fault after being pickpocketed.
Then I asked for CCTV record, very interestingly they said the camera that could film my table was “not working at the time”z. Without anything to the contrary I couldn’t challenge them on the spot. I left my contact with them expecting a proper follow-up explanation, but unfortunately they seem to have chosen to let the sleeping dog lie and evade their ostensible/apparent Occupier’s Liability on this incident.
If this leaves unexplained, I think it’s not unfair to run a (conspiracy) argument that some restaurants, such as Myung Ga, is part of the accompliance to the ever-heightening theft crime around soho area. Having known that theft crime is getting serious in recent days, they have the audacity to leave such a dangerous security measure… very brave.
I’d therefore give a warning to whoever wants to eat out there to (1) take extra care of your belongings and (2) be prepared that if your things got stolen in this restaurant, they couldn’t even provide the CCTV record WHEN THEY SAY CCTV IS IN OPERATION!
Another restaurant staff/owner, however, did try to be helpful by telling me how to report this crime online (although that’s useless). The same staff who confronted me at first then brought me to the security office nearby and see if anything can be done. Unfortunately: (a) the extremely helpful London met police didn’t bother my report; and (b) the security officer to whom I was brought was very defensive, and wouldn’t cooperate without police...
Read moreJust tried the hot pot at this place. When I ordered only hot pot, the korean woman staff looked at us quite surprised I think and asked if we want order rice? I said that’s fine because thought the hotpot already comes with noodles. She said yes a half of noodles. I appreciated the explanation which could help us imagine how the dish is. But I really do not understand how a hot pot in small size stated in the menu suitable for 2 but comes with a half of noodles and you then offered us to order more rice? It is like they want to push us order more. When we said that everything for now. She grabs our menu straight away without saying thank you. That is extremely rude. When we were enjoying foods just about few first minutes and the hot pot was starting boiling, she came and turned off the stove without asking if we are ok with that. What is the point if we wanted our hot pot to be kept warm, and you rudely turned it off without asking?? We came to your place to enjoy not to feel upset leaving. We could confirm that we noticed when the hot pot was boil and reduced the heat enough for it to be kept warm and not over boiled or anything. When the couple next to us ordered a lot of food. I can see that she said thank you and smile. That is so discriminated. We dont expect to pay near £40 to receive this kind of attitude. Honestly guys, stay away of...
