The hostess and the waitress who first served us were lovely, and we ordered with no issue, myself being coeliac and my boyfriend being gluten intolerant. The food arrived, and the waitress opened with “who’s gluten free”, which understandably confused us as we’d thought we’d ordered both burgers gluten free. i asked if they weren’t both gluten free and she seemed extremely irritated by this and just repeated “no, who’s gluten free???”. not being sure which of our burgers had arrived gluten free, and my intolerance being more serious, i took a second to quickly look at the different buns, in which time she asked a third time, the same question. i’ve been a waitress myself for six years, in similar places as this, and understand the frustration of a table not listening to you, but it was very clear in this instance that there was a mistake with allergy info, which should have instantly raised red flags for her. clearly not, she seemed completely uninterested. i said i was coeliac, so she put the one gluten free down for me and the other for my boyfriend, said something along the lines of “right, there we go” before i could say anything else, with a tone of frustration. i tried to say we were confused because we thought both were arriving gluten free, but she just walked away. 10 seconds later we heard her talking loudly to her coworkers about how she just wanted to go home, not be here, and be in the sun. we could tell! it’s a simple mistake to not hear or misunderstand an order being gluten free, that wasn’t the issue. the problem was the other waitress’ complete lack of concern for dietary restrictions or allergy mistakes in the kitchen. you work in a restaurant that serves primarily gluten free/coeliac friendly food - do better. we’d been on a train for six hours so my boyfriend just cut his losses and ate the filling of his burger instead of trying to flag down the staff and have it remade, as we had appointments soon after. the check back happened, oddly from about a metre and a half away from our table and i took the opportunity to ask if the chicken wings were safe for me to eat, to which our original friendly waitress said “yes - everything on the menu is gluten free”. i tried to explain i was asking because we had thought my boyfriends burger was going to be gluten free and wasn’t, and therefore weren’t sure about contamination, but she too had walked away after replying to the initial question, and was too far away to hear me without me shouting. Overall, a disappointing and concerning experience. Distant staff and lack of effort or care. Everyone has bad days with service; I know myself how irritated a bad day can make me, but never would this affect me caring about the allergen status of an order. Everyone else was lovely, and once the food had hit the table for more than a few minutes there wasn’t much more we could do, being short on time. The food was fine in taste and texture, but I couldn’t enjoy any of it after our interaction with...
Read moreEmbarking on a culinary misadventure at this establishment was a regrettable decision. Despite the amiable staff earning a commendable 5 stars, the kitchen's performance was nothing short of an atrocity. Opting for the touted 'burger of the month,' a truffle-infused creation, accompanied by a can of coke, proved to be a series of unfortunate events.
The peculiar practice of presenting the dish solely with a knife, sans fork, added an unnecessary layer of inconvenience. Cue the universal ritual of beseeching the waitress for utensils, a shared experience among patrons. Now, onto the lackluster burger – a well-intentioned effort that crumbled in execution. Devoid of juiciness and flavor, the dry bun encapsulated the disappointment. Requesting a medium rare patty resulted in a well-cooked anomaly, concluding my subpar burger experience in record time.
Let's not forget the fries, reminiscent of a home-cooking catastrophe. A symphony of overcooking, excessive salting, and an assortment of herbs obliterated any semblance of true fry goodness. Seeking solace, I turned to my neighboring diner, a stranger until then, only to discover unanimous disdain for the fries and mutual agreement that our home-cooked endeavors would outshine this culinary letdown.
Priced at £20, this ill-fated attempt at indulgence left me feeling like a victim of culinary highway robbery. To add insult to injury, the unfortunate aftermath included a 5:30 pm stomach ache, an enduring taste of subpar fries, and the abrupt cancellation of a planned night out with friends. 'Honest Burgers' lived up to their name, as I genuinely feel poisoned. A stern piece of advice: steer clear of this establishment at all costs. Your taste buds and well-being...
Read moreHey! Hey you! Yeah you, the one doom scrolling and maybe not taking the time to read a review! I’ll make this simple.
EAT the burger! Best dang burger I have had in London. I come from the PNW in the US, so I know burgers. I also grew up in ID (one of the US’ largest growers of potatoes) so I know chips/fries. The food was amazing!
Did I mention mine was vegetarian? I had the Bacon Plant 2.0. It is the first vegetarian burger I’ve ever had that tastes properly like a bacon burger. I would suggest a bit more rocket on it and slightly more sauce. (My peeps from the US, be warned, the pickles are not what you are used to. I suggest getting them on the side and then adding them if you like them.) The mind lemonade was very minty but refreshing and not too sweet. The chips/fries are fabulous! They were crispy and fresh and are seasoned perfectly and have just the tiniest touch of rosemary which really elevates them to another level.
The one and ONLY thing I didn’t enjoy and the only reason I did not give Honest Burgers a full five stars was the atmosphere. It was so incredibly loud I had to put in my earplugs. Even with them in it was almost deafening. It made eating in highly unpleasant. Additionally the table was sticky/tacky which was unpleasant.
So if you’ve made it down this far in my review (also well done you), I would absolutely suggest that you eat at Honest burgers, just maybe don’t eat in or just don’t eat during peak...
