I’m really disappointed with my recent experience at Peggy Jean. I wrote a private review via the email I was sent having dined with them but I’ve heard nothing, and therefore feel I should make a public review. I went with a friend I haven’t seen in years hoping for a nice meal, but we felt the experience to be difficult. When we were finally seated, the waitress forgot for 15 minutes to bring us a menu, and only gave us one when we asked for it and didn’t seem bothered about the wait. Next, a separate waitress came to ask for food order only about a minute later to which we asked for another few minutes. We then got left for another 20 minutes and we had to ask to order. I ordered avocado toast with a side of halloumi, and when it came it was avocado toast with some scrambled eggs on the top. I thought I must’ve not read that it was coming with scrambled eggs and they’d shortly bring my halloumi as a side so me and my friend began eating. No problem with her food arriving - apart from it was tepid. A few minutes later having started my meal, I asked a waitress where my halloumi was, and she came back with a plate of avocado toast with halloumi next to it. She said she’d given me the wrong meal, and asked me to pick off the halloumi with my fingers off another plate. There was minimal apology for the fact she’d given me the wrong meal. Having cleared our plates, we had to wait for the tap water to arrive that we asked for when our food arrived. Finally, we had to ask for the bill to come, and we were pretty shocked that - on top of an already overpriced restaurant - they left the side of halloumi on and charged service. I’m not saying I’m entitled to a discount, but I thought that at least taking a side of halloumi off would show some remorse for the fact I was given the wrong meal. We were reluctant to, but still did, pay service despite the fact the waitresses seemed uninterested and weren’t proactive at all and it was a shame we felt we had to ask for something they’d forgotten at every stage. Overall, I would hope we just got unfortunate as the views and scenery are lovely, and there is certainly potential...
Read moreI have never had such a horrible service experience in my life and I recently left feedback privately hoping Peggy Jean would address it and apologize or offer some sort of reassurance. Their failure to respond says it all — clearly the people behind this establishment do not care about customer service in the slightest. I do want to state that the food was actually quite good, my review applies to the service (or lack thereof) only. My friend and I waited 20 minutes after being seated and not a single person came to check on us, ask if we'd like to order drinks, or bring us water. Eventually, after about 25 minutes, I had to get up and ask a server to come to us (and even then it still look a few minutes more for someone to come over). Our food arrived before the drinks. Halfway through the meal I had to once again flag down a member of the elusive staff to ask about our drinks; without a smile she told me to "wait." I said we have already been waiting about 40 minutes for drinks and we're nearly done with our food. Considering it wasn't even busy and there were plenty of empty tables and plenty of (unhappy-looking) staff visible, I have no idea why we were unable to receive proper service. The staff members were all unfriendly, without a smile to spare; no apology ever came. Obviously the drinks should have been take off the bill which did not happen. I suggest they do a serious staff overhaul immediately. I am a Richmond local and will not be returning (and will be advising my friends and neighbours to stay away as well), there are so many other establishments in town that I'd rather give...
Read moreWe booked a table for 5 but we forgot to say we had a dog so we called in the morning and told them. They said that was fine however when we got there it was not in their notes so we had to wait for them to sit us for 35 min.
The hostess was very kind and tried her best to accommodate us, she apologised and so on. We didn’t mind so we waited. As we were waiting we heard how other customers were complaining about the delay, apparently they were waiting for an hour and something went wrong with their meal.
We sat downstairs, it is a beautiful place and I would have love to sit upstairs to proper enjoy the views but it was so busy. Our booking was at 3 but we didn’t seat until 3.40 pm and they said they might not be able to serve us brunch (serving until 4). We actually had to ask several times to get our order and we had to look at the menu online as no one gave us a menu.
My friends enjoyed their meals, however, mine was their only vegan option and it was just poor. No bread, no beans and still £14.5, I was so hungry and I ended up paying £30 as the cocktail was also £15. While eating we also saw how a waiter spilled the coffee on a customer and a dog by accident… They only had a toilet so some of my friends had to go to another restaurant to go to the toilet as the queue was super long, turned out two of the toilets were blocked and they couldn’t do anything about it.
To summarise, it is a very sweet place at a fantastic location but they do need to improve their service and maybe , their vegan options if they would like to...
