Porter and Sorter — Restaurant in London

I'm a frequent visitor over the past year to this pub as its local to home and work. The atmosphere is always good. I've never been disappointed. There's always music or an event going on. We visited for most the euro football matches with a great atmosphere, very lively but nice polite, fun people. They are always welcoming to my children even though there's never many kids in there. They have events for all the holidays and even have days just for the kids like Halloween. The staff are mostly lovely! There is a young guy with dreads who is always polite, happy, accommodating and nice to talk too. Another young lad who is always polite and most recently I met the Manager who was very nice. He was funny and even gave the kids a free game of pool and a discount. Ofcourse there's always one that spoils it for the bunch but in general, most are lovely. I've tried different dishes over the year and most are good pub food with the occasional bad dish. They have a small outdoor seating area which is nice during the summer as it gets lots of sun, and even a partially covered outdoor area for the colder months if you're a smoker like me! Overall this is a nice pub. I pop in occasionally after work with colleagues, which seems to be a trend as its right next to the train station and I am never disappointed. When I bring the kids, they always have nice food and enjoy themselves. I like the pub so much, I've even booked my work Christmas Do here in December for 30 of us. I walked passed the pub many times last year over christmas time and the atmosphere, music and events looked really good so decided to book it this year. Oh another thing, they always go all out with the holidays or events. They dress the whole pub up for Halloween, Christmas, football etc which I love! My visit was before the current lift in restrictions (19/07) but only by a few days. Service was slow.. and I mean slow. Took a while to speak to us and asked us to do track and trace, all done. Then took forever to show us to a table despite been stood only a few feet from us at the bar.

Once sat the waiter disappeared again for ages. They had a strange service set up of two servers waiting either side of the venue and one guy preparing all the drinks. Honestly would have been way faster to all serve and prepare drinks but hey, maybe it usually works for them. To me, silly set up, coming from a bar atmosphere myself.

Once the guy did arrive he took the order and went off again only to return a while later to take payment. At this point the final member of the party had shown up and ordered with him. The two servers then stood at the bar and watched as the one guy tried to make a back log of orders. Our drinks come but my friends doesn't arrive until we finish ours from the first order. Completely baffled me the whole experience. They weren't even that busy, maybe 8 tables max.

Bar the waiting the service was hollow and robotic, no real interaction, barely minimal interaction you need to even place an order.

This was the second time we visited this pub. We spotted it from the platform in July. We were heading home to Uckfield after attending a concert in London and we had a long wait for our connecting train. The pub had a welcoming atmosphere, the staff were friendly, it certainly felt like it was a popular place. So again, last Monday (21st October)we found ourselves on the same platform , around lunchtime, our train had been delayed , No brainer!! We headed for Porter and Sorter. Again, it was welcoming , the staff were friendly and helpful .They had really gone to to town on the Halloween decorations, they were amazing ,and everywhere. We decided to miss the next train and get the later one. We had lunch. The steak was cooked to perfection, they had no problem swopping the peas for baked beans for my husband. We decided to have a dessert, the sundae was delicious. The draught beer was half price it was on a promotion . Altogether well worth a visit. Great pub, Great staff, Great food, Clean and Great decorations. All at a reasonable price. There is also a very nice outdoor seating area. Probably East Croydens Oasis .Highly...
