We have done probably 12 to 15 take outs from this place over the last two years. We have been disappointed every single time. Today, we ordered our final meal from this place. We are done. We kept coming back only because no other Indian restaurant offered a wide range of vegan food like these guys and we didn't have a choice. From now on, we are going to rely on allplants or planty for 'those' days. Reasons for disappointment: 1. Extremely oily and greasy (most probably from reused oil used for frying things) 2. Stale food at least on 6-7 different occasions where at least one or two items we order tastes "off" and we can tell it's gone "off" and spoiled 3. Unfriendly folks and awful customer service 4. Stomach always feels unsettled after eating here and we know why (unhealthily greasy food) 5. Idli's are a hit or a miss. Most times it's reheated and hard 6. Salty food too but that's a common theme in most restaurants anyway 7. Excessive use of unnecessary plastic-ware and no steps taken to reduce environmental impact. The last photo shows the number of plastic containers we received tonight for an order of One Vegan Thali. It took me 20 minutes to clean the grease and oil off with boiling hot water so I can recycle the containers. How can one's stomach digest this much grease? Coupled with the leaching of micro-plastics?

Finally tried Sagar, the vegan and vegetarian South Indian restaurant. They have branches all over London, and I visited their Hammersmith branch, which was very cozy and had a pretty authentic vibe. I obviously needed to try their Dosas, so I went for a Masala Dosa. It was great! The Dosa was beautiful, and the potato and lentil curry inside was really flavourful. Really hits the spot, I’d highly recommend it. Also had a Jaggery Dosa for dessert which was very interesting! I’m not hugely into sweets, so you’d think a dosa filled with chunks of Jaggery would be too much, but the vegan ice cream was just perfect to cut into that sweetness and deliver a very balanced dish and experience. Overall, Sagar has a pretty solid offering of traditional South Indian food that you don’t often find in London. I would highly recommend you give it a try. I’m certainly already planning my next visit to try the rest of their menu! 🏅 Overall: 8/10 🌱 Vegetarian, lots of clearly marked vegan options What we ate: - Samosa - Stuffed Paratha ⭐️ - Masala Dosa ⭐️ - Sambar Curry - Jaggery Dosa w/ Ice Cream ⭐️

I had been meaning to try Sagar for a while now, but just today realised they have a location in Hammersmith near my work. Popped over for lunch and ordered the lunch Thali; initially it was only vegetarian but I requested a vegan option, which they were quick to accommodate. A quick look at the full menu I could see that maybe 80-90% is already vegan and clearly labeled. The food came in less than 10 minutes (maybe even closer to 5 minutes) and was so absolutely amazing... and huge (hand in picture for scale). I could barely finish everything and nothing was "meh"; everything tasted incredible. The Thali even came with a dessert I've never tried before, some kind of semolina-ish cardamon and cashew dish. The VALUE, level of food, service was all impeccable. I'm going to find it difficult to not come here everyday for lunch from now on.

My father and I stopped by Sagar in Hammersmith – as we have done sporadically for many years – for a quick lunch on Saturday, sitting by the window. A homeless man clearly on some substance entered the restaurant – where we were the only patrons, the restaurant having just opened for the day – and asked my father for money. We politely said no, but he persisted. As I continued to say no, he aggressively shouted at me several times to ‘burn in hell’. During this episode the manager stood behind him – as did a waitress – doing nothing whatsoever, despite my pleas to them to intervene. Eventually, the manager ineffectually muttered to him that he should go, and while continuing to abuse us, the man took a handful of some sort of sweets that are on the counter and threw them both at the waitress and at us.

Once this incident had ended, my father and I asked the manager why on earth he had done nothing to help us, and he shrugged and muttered something to the effect that there was nothing he could do. We proceeded to be served our meal, with no hint of an apology, acknowledgment or compensation for what had just occurred. Indeed, we were even charged, and paid, a service charge. The fact that we can be abused and effectively assaulted by a homeless man in a restaurant with little attempt at intervention by the staff is extraordinary. The fact that the staff make no apology or acknowledgment of the incident is unforgivable. I have never, in any restaurant I’ve eaten in anywhere in the world, been subject to such a horrible situation and – actually more egregiously – never have I experienced such pathetic and ineffectual management.

The owners of Sagar will be hearing formally from my family, and we anticipate an immediate and appropriate response. Regardless of this, neither we nor anyone we know will be visiting...

Walked inside the restaurant in the early evening starving and needing something to eat. Me and my mum were not sure if they were closed or not as the restaurant was completely empty but we were so hungry we checked anyway. We walked in and asked if they were open and one older man was behind the bar and a younger man stood at the back. The younger man started to walk very quickly towards us and told us that they were so we went and sat in the empty restaurant as they brought us the menus. I looked forward towards my mum and her face was utter disgust and she looked very uncomfortable. I wasn’t fully sure what was wrong but since the restaurant was empty but open it was very bare. She then told me that the man at the back of the restaurant was waving around a FLY BAT!! As we walked in. As soon as she said that I was completely put of and disgusted. I then remembered that I saw the man at the back of the restaurant as I went in holding something and waving something around in the air that he then put away after he saw us but I didn’t realise at the time what it was till I was told. We looked up the restraint and saw countless bad food quality reviews and we had decided Then and There that we were no going to eat in this place it is absolutely disgusting and I am not surprised there was no one in there. So we stood and and my mother said to the older man that we had to go. So we very quickly left through the door and walked away. I will never ever go to this restaurant ever and I am totally glad that I didn’t have food as if that is going on inside the dining room god knows what is going on inside the kitchen. I don’t think anyone would like the thought of having flies in you’re masala. (Ps I would put 0 stars if I could but it...

Please please be aware that this place is unhygienic and the food quality is very very poor. We found a short black hair in the last bite of our dhosa, disgusting. It was meant to be a nice introduction of South Indian cuisine to our kids. I myself am Asian and my husband is mixed cultures but also likes South Indian food. We were near by and when we saw the great reviews for this place decided to give it a try. We ordered quite a few dishes out of which only the stuffed paratha was nice, my kids really like this and wanted more, but the waiter said ‘sorry the chef won’t make any more of these’ I did not understand why, as there was still 50 mins left till closing, we literally ordered more parathas 10 mins after receiving our order. Also when ordering we told the waiter we will order more of the dishes our kids liked and he said no problem, the waiter did not even go to check with the chef, just said we won’t make anymore :( My kids were so disappointed as they were hungry and wanted more. We went somewhere else for our kids to eat after this. Never been to a restaurant where the chef refuses to make what is on the menu, it would have been OK if the rest of the food was good, but sadly it was all extremely disappointing and after finding a hair in the last bite I just thought I have to warn other people to not eat here.

I hope the management will see my review and investigate what is going on here. We are not confrontational people so just paid and left. Also the waiters who served us were nice and so we didn’t want to embarrass them. Shame as we have a lot of friends who we would have recommended this place to, but now I will be telling them to avoid this place at all cost. Terrible experience and ruined our day out...
