Let me start off by saying that the location is in the heart of Croydon, that’s right, high street! This was my second time going to this restaurant and I have to say that both times I was overwhelmed with the high level of hospitality and the overall quality of each dish that I ordered. I had the biryani the first time and it was very nice. The chicken jalfrezi was superb! I had mine with keema naan and it had the perfect level of spice as the restaurant owner kindly asked the chef to put in a hint of the naga chilli for my benefit. The staff are attentive and show a good sense of urgency for each one of their guests. Prices are fair as this is an upscale restaurant so no complains there. If you don’t believe my words maybe my pictures will help in regards to the high level of quality of the food I had. Now that I have mentioned the staff and the food, now let me move on to the superb décor that Sangri has! The lighting is modern and attractive with beautiful velvet curtains near the end of the restaurant given it as gothic red look as it moves with air flow. Will I be back? Yes! It is now my regular curry house! Looking at negative reviews confused me as I rarely see anyone complain here, but I guess some people you just cannot please. The owner himself will personally greet you and attend to each one of your needs. Thank you Sangri ! Keep up...
Read moreOnline booking didn't work/felt rushed to order and finish/food was ok... for me it lacked salt/very loud hard to have a conversation.
I had not had Indian food in over 5 years. After reading the reviews and the menu my friend and I decided on Sangri. I made an online booking for 2.. Didn't hear anything back. Arrived at the restaurant to find our booking didn't go through and that they could squeeze us in for an hour. We agreed as it was a Friday night and doubted anywhere else would have a short notice booking for 2 available.... Wrong decision from the moment we sat down we felt rushed. We ordered the lamb Balti and the paneer korma with rice, saag aloo and paratha as sides. My friend was very happy with his korma dish and found the added pistachios gave the dish a really nice flavour. I however was underwhelmed by the flavour of my dish which consisted mostly of largely chopped onions and tomatoes/peppers and not much meat. We were asked if we were finished... Although we still had our sides to finish we just left it and paid and left.
I personally wouldn't return as I found the food underwhelming on the other hand my friend really...
Read moreTHE WORST service I have ever experienced. The waiter could not be more rude and ignorant. He acted like serving me and my partner was a punishment. When I asked about certain wine he said he doesn't drink wine so how is he suppose to know the answer. So I said I am fine with tap water since he cant answer my question about the wine. Then he said 'you want the set menu you need to order a drink'. I just wanted to point out no such information was included on the set menu which I find surprising. The manager / supervisor wasn't any nicer. When we asked for a bill someone came and literally threw it on our table.I am normally not the one to complain but I have never felt unwelcome in a restaurant before. I will definitely NEVER COME BACK and make sure to let my friends from this area know that this place isn't nice at all. Just so I comment on food..... nothing special really.... Definitely...
