The Tava Shop Croydon — Restaurant in London

I retell a fantastic experience that I encountered this last weekend....

Walking down the Croydon high street, sandwiched right between a Gastro pub and a Turkish Mezze is this gem of a place - The Tava Shop! When you enter this restaurant, there is a warmth that you feel. While the teal coloured walls on one side give a sense of calmness, rejuvenation and clarity of mind, the brick wall on the other side gives a rustic Indian road-side dabba feel. A perfect setting for a quiet family snack or meal with very friendly owners-chefs- waiters. We had gone just for a cup of chai/ coffee post lunch from a nearby restaurant and so unfortunately couldn't try some of the delicious sounding, memories-evoking dishes like the Mughalai Egg Burji or the Gujarati Dabeli or the mouth-watering (sounding) Vada pavs. The 'Deewani Chai' and the 'Roohani Coffee' was the perfect dose that was required to re-energize ourselves. It was made to perfection and for those of us who like our tea a little sweet, you couldn't ask for anything more. On recommendation from the owner, we also took a take-away of the 'Tava Chicken Burger'. The only regret on reaching home was that we had not ordered for more. The burger melted away into the mouth and stomach with this restaurant certainly melting into our hearts as a 'definite must-visit' for any of our friends and families.......

Moral of the visit: Go there for a proper meal so that you walk out not just mentally rejuvenated but gastronomically satisfied as well.

Update: 11/6/2022 - visited nearly 6 months later! This time with my parents visiting from Kerala.. “Deewani chai is absolutely super. Similar to what we have had in Mumbai “ “After coming to London, this is the first delicious tasty Indian burger we are eating“

And for me.. the vada paav combination with deewani chai was an explosion of flavours on the tongue- first the spicyness tingling at the top of the tongue and then the first sip of the hot chai bringing in a warm soothness followed by the masala of the chai mingling with the spicy vada… mind blowing!!

And to top it all- a must have is the “rasmalai cake”. My 2 year old certainly loved it and ravished her portion off...
