Disappointing Birthday Dinner Experience – Poor Service & Rude Staff

I recently visited this restaurant for my birthday dinner, expecting a high-end dining experience, but unfortunately, it was far from satisfactory.

First, we called the restaurant at least three hours in advance to request a slight adjustment to our reservation time (just 30 minutes later). And it was confirmed that the new time will be updated. Upon arrival, we waited nearly 10 minutes just for the host to appear at the reception desk. When we provided our booking name, she rudely claimed that we were a "no-show" and refused to let us explain or show our call records. Her dismissive attitude was shocking, especially for a restaurant of this caliber.

After several minutes of arguing, we were reluctantly "offered" a table as an alternative, with our allotted dining time cut short. To make matters worse, once seated we waited an excessively long time just to order drinks, with no staff checking on us.

For a meal that cost £200.00(for 2), the level of service provided was unacceptable.But we paid the service charge on the bill still!(the host was asking for tips on top of service charge when paying…) I expected professionalism and courtesy, especially on a special occasion like my birthday. I was recently at Santo Mare restaurant and I can't help but share how amazing my experience was. As soon as I entered the door, I was welcomed with a warmth and kindness that is rarely found among the staff who are extremely professional, especially Camilla, at the same time all affable and genuine, creating an atmosphere that makes you immediately feel at home.

The menu offers a selection of typical traditional Italian dishes, prepared with the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Every dish I tasted was a real journey into flavours, an authentic delight.

The real gem, however, was the hospitality: I remember Camilla's beautiful presence very well and not only were they attentive to our every need, really kind despite not being a native English speaker, we appreciated her genuineness. You could sense a true passion for cooking and for the well-being of guests. Every detail was taken care of with precision, from the initial welcome, to the moment of the final farewell, which left us with a smile and the desire to return soon.
