We had been highly recommended Sanzio, being that it's local to us, but have never visited the restaurant. Last minute on Saturday, we decided to visit & managed to get a booking outside in the the little garden area which was very nice. It was warm out so we felt like we were on holiday.
First impressions were good, a wonderful waitress and a lovely atmosphere. We ordered our starters which took some time to arrive - the zucchini fritti and calamari. Both of which were tasty, however the calamari was an extremely small portion which was not reflected in the price we paid at £10.99. I believe between my family of 4 we managed to get 2 tiny pieces of Calamari each.
So we were ravenous and looking forward to our mains, we all ordered a pasta dish. We must have waited at least 20-25mins before we called the waitress over to question if the food was coming. Due to there being a large party dining, there were delays and other customers in the restaurant too we saw were waiting. Our waitress apologised and brought us a small bowl of olives to appease us.
Soon after, the food arrived, however the portion sizes were really small again not reflecting the prices we paid. I had the seafood pasta at £20.99. My husband finished his Spaghetti Bolognese in 3 mouthfuls then finished my daughters, but still ended up leaving feeling hungry. All the food was really delicious, we couldn't fault it, but it's such a shame as when you visit a local Italian you expect the meal to be hearty & to leave feeling full and satisfied. This sadly wasn't the case for us, so with that said, we won't rush back, having spent £120 on a meal that didn't leave us feeling like we had been fed well.
Increase the portions, then it's definitely...
Read moreHad an absolutely awful experience after going for a birthday dinner on the 26th June 2025.
Firstly, my order (lasagna) came out 30 minutes after everyone else's. No apology or complimentary drinks or starters. I was just sat there staring into space until it came.
Secondly, I wish the order never came out. I have had better microwave meals than the lasagna that came out. Hardly any cheese and it was cooked to death. A plate mush as far as I was concerned. Long story I never finished it.
Thirdly, we had brought a cake for the birthday boy. We where a group of 9 people in total. I passed the cake (and the candles) onto the staff and kindly asked if they could bring it out. Afew minutes later the manager comes out and says its a £1 to £1.5 charge per head to bring the cake out. I thought it was a joke. Firstly which is it? (£1 or £1.5?) and secondly when the bill is north of £200 already this seemed rather inconsiderate. When we declined he mentioned that if we order 1 or 2 desserts that it would be free. Are you joking?!
Fourth point, our table (of 9) was against the bar meaning the shelf of the bar was pressed into my shoulder the entire time.
Lastly, we had to wait for a further 30 minutes for the bill after asking multiple staff members who where being very rude at this point.
Long story short it was one of the most god awful experiences I have ever had. I really would discourage anybody from wasting their money.
They have lost a...
Read moreWe booked a week in advance directly at the restaurant. Anne, the manager, was incredibly kind and helpful when making our reservation. Upon arrival today, the host greeted us warmly and showed us to our table. We didn’t love the central location, so we asked to be moved to a side table, and they accommodated us immediately without any hesitation.
Service was excellent throughout, attentive without being intrusive. We started with the Antipasti Gustosi, which included a lovely selection of focaccia and pizza slices, olives, grilled courgettes, fresh mozzarella with tomato sticks, and Italian prosciutto, a delicious and well-balanced start.
For mains, we tried the specials of the day: Risotto allo Scoglio, Tagliatelle with prawns, pancetta, and zucchini, and a beautifully cooked sea bass served with vegetables, which we shared between the two of us. Each dish was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care.
To finish, we had a classic Tiramisù light, creamy, and the perfect sweet ending. We paired our meal with a Sardinian white wine, which complemented the seafood beautifully.
Overall, the experience was truly enjoyable. The staff were polite, friendly, and made us feel welcome. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. As an Italian native, I can confidently say the food is authentic and delicious. The rotating weekly specials are a great touch and make each visit feel new and exciting — it genuinely reminded me of home....
