I used to dine at Simya frequently when I was in college in London, and to this day, it remains one of the best Korean restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food is absolutely perfect — every dish on the menu is crafted with care, and the flavors are consistently amazing.
What truly sets Simya apart is the owner, who is also the chef and waiter. He always went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary restrictions (I have allergies, and most restaurants either refuse to make adjustments or say they will but don’t follow through). At Simya, my requests were always respected — no stress, no mistakes.
The bibimbap here is phenomenal — easily the best I’ve ever had. Even after trying versions of it in countless places since leaving London, nothing compares to the one at Simya. And strangely enough, the bulgogi reminds me of a dish from my hometown in China — it’s comforting, nostalgic, and delicious.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, thoughtful, and absolutely delicious Korean food. This...
Read moreI never write reviews but I felt like I should for this one because I was quite disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had far worse food elsewhere and the reason I was disappointed is because I feel like there is potential. I ordered the teokpokki and kimchi jeon. The teokpokki was 50% vegetables and no, this isn’t normal. There are many versions of it in korea, some are more plain, some are more watery, etc but I have never seen teokpokki with the amount of onions, carrots and zucchini as this one. Regardless, the taste was decent. I figured maybe this is a way to cut costs as other korean restaurants in the area do the same although not to this extent. The thing that bothered me the most was the jeon. For some reason it was extremely sweet. Usually jeons are not sweet at all so there was no reason for it to be sweet. I’m going to give it the benefit of doubt that the owner or chef...
Read moreSimya is truly my favourite restaurant anywhere. When we lived nearby, my husband and I came at least once a week for hearty, delicious, cheap meals and soju. They have a huge variety of amazing veggie options (japchae, ramen, bibimbap, fried udon, tofu bulgogi, etc.), and my husband loves the sweet & spicy fried chicken. Simya is such a special place and we'll always remember the super friendly waiter :). There's nothing better than their ramen and tea on a cold London night. They have great specials too! Simya even inspired us to learn to make Korean food after we moved away, because we couldn't bear to be without it. We've even considered moving back just to have these wonderful experiences at Simya again. They deserve all the success in the world, please...
