10/10 hands down.
Owner Ifti is a lovely brother, very hospitable and friendly, and very easy to talk to and get along with. Service is very good and the staff are really nice.
The food is honestly amazing. Just picture good good home cooked food, cooked with love, and thats what Slice of Meat is all about.
STARTERS
• Chicken wings starter - juicy and well flavoured spiciness, cant go wrong with this. • Prawn starter - wow, delicious and spicy, prawns served with a bun to wipe up and absorb the juices, (which is handy because youd probably lick the plate if there was no buns)
MEALS
• Boneless chicken meal - flavours on point and complimented well with rice and peas. The plantain was amazing (first time trying it, and did not disappoint)
• Beef ribs - oh wow, FALL OFF THE BONE. That speaks for itself, words dont do enough justice.
• Slice of meat mixed platter - best bang for your buck, only eat if on an empty stomach. Flavours all on point (as expected by now)
• Wagyu beef steak meal - for something that you'll normally pay upwards of £60 for in central london or nearby, for about £25 this was bang on, good flavour and was indeed a very big 'Slice of Meat'.
Chips are solid, nice and crunchy with gooe seasoning- nothing to find fault at.
MOJITOS
• Strawberry - really sweet and tasty • Lychee - honestly a must try, dont know what sort of cracked up syrup was used to make it, coz it was that good • watermelon and guava - banging - was balanced nicely and very refreshing
All the mojitos above are excellent, my favourite being the lychee one. Mixed the lychee and strawberry together coz why not, and damn that was good.
DESERT
Only tried a taste test of Slice of Meat's homemade special Purple ice cream sandwiched with hot brioche bun.
Genuinely 10/10, no joke. I dont know how they came up with this, but it is literally delicious. The sweetness and cold of the ice cream coupled with the hot bun is just bonkers. Cant even explain it properly, you just want to eat more and more of it.
Will be lauched on the menu officially on 25th Dec 2021, so get down and give that a go - 100% recommend.
Will be coming back for sure (already been twice within 3 days). Strongly recommend anyone who has read this far to go give Slice of Meat a...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews, but my experience at "Slice of Meat" in the heart of East London was so exceptional that I feel compelled to share it. I have never eaten Jamaican food before, but this meal made me feel as though I had been transported to the vibrant streets of Kingston.
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by an exceptionally nice and attentive staff. Their service was not only professional but extraordinarily warm and inviting, setting the tone for a phenomenal dining experience.
I ordered the half jerk chicken, which was delightfully boneless and served in a succulent sauce. The flavours were a revelation, perfectly balanced and incredibly rich. Though I had no prior experience with Jamaican cuisine, I found myself enamoured by the authenticity and intricacy of the dish. The chicken was tender, the sauce was flavourful, and the entire meal was beautifully presented.
Accompanying the chicken were rice and peas, dumplings, and a refreshing coleslaw. Each element on the plate complemented the other, creating a symphony of tastes and textures that was both comforting and exciting.
To accompany my meal, I indulged in a perfectly crafted mojito and later, a soothing mint tea. Both were exceptional, with the mojito offering a tangy refreshment and the mint tea providing a calming finish to an indulgent meal.
The entire experience at "Slice of Meat" was extraordinary. From the ambiance to the exceptional service, from the delectable food to the overall experience, everything was top-notch.
As someone who's never ventured into Jamaican culinary territory before, "Slice of Meat" has not only introduced me to this incredible cuisine but has also set the bar incredibly high. I left the restaurant feeling more than satisfied; I felt a connection to a culture and a culinary tradition that was both new and exhilarating.
I highly recommend "Slice of Meat" to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a fan of Jamaican cuisine or a complete newcomer like me, this place offers something special that transcends mere dining. It's an experience that nourishes both body and soul, and one I'll remember fondly for a long...
Read moreVisited on very high recommendations (word of mouth)
Placed a phone order, clearly no system in place or simply overwhelmed as did not get confirmation the order was processed by the end.
Nonetheless went to collect food anyways, as expected food wasn't ready, heard my order being put through as I got there.
Didn't have to wait too long as they gave me the food of somebody who did order before me.
It seemed the business had an unexpected rush and all the tables were left uncleared after customers had left with what seemed like one person only at the front serving, taking orders and making drinks. Very hard working owner!
Ordered beef ribs, grill box and prawns.
Their website menu and just eat menu are different in pricing from the menu in the restaurant with the latter being substantially more. E.g. grill box £16.99 on website and just eat vs £24.99 in the restaurant. When I told the owner this, the price was not honoured even though both online menus are live and one can place an order through them both.
Beef Ribs was really tasty with tender meat, the bbq sauce was perfectly sweet and not over powering.
Grill box comes with a variety of things including jerk doner (was ok), 2 lamb chops (although I got 1 and 1 literally a bone) but flavour was ok, chicken strips/tenders (very moist and tasted ok), half chicken was really really bad (extremely salty), 2 jerk wings again extremely salty, jerk sauce itself was very salty, chips was ok, jalapeño bombers from frozen pack.
Jerk prawns was ok, even though the above chicken kind of ruined rest of the meal.
In summary will only go back for beef ribs and nothing else.
Such a let down had I had the ribs on its own would have rated this place higher, but intentionally ordered a bit of everything for a fair review.
This place should naturally grow and not rush, taking care of quality of food. Otherwise in this climate the business will not survive. Better care should be taken on the grill as not to mix all the meats together. Get a decent system in place to...
