Ok so the the one star I've given is for the food, the food is excellent and I can't fault it. The missing 4 stars is due to the customer service. When I first visited the chip shop I thought it was amazing, a proper good east end chip shop that was family run. Over the time I have been visiting I began to notice a complete slack behaviour emerging from staff who are now serving smaller portions and occasionally burnt chips. It seems as though you are at a disadvantage if you become a regular here. The main manager (I think) has short brown/black hair and is quite short is very patronising in the way in which he serves smaller portions and denies there being any change, despite me having visited the shop many times over the last year. The other lady and male staff are quite fair and don't seem so smuge about the changes that have been made. Best experience ever, I order through deliveroo and the person working at the restaurant spotted a mistake (missing chips in the order) and actually called me on my mobile. he suggested trying to edit the mistake at the deliveroo app but it wouldn't allow me, so o called him back to say it's ok it can't be amended "I guess I have to do without chips" the guy was so nice he said "don't worry I'll give you the chips this time", what a great customer service, but what the guy didn't know while doing such a good deed is that I was ordering from hospital while waiting for my transport home, after spending nearly 8 hours at my chemotherapy appointment, as I have bone cancer. Had a fabulous takeaway which was freshly made as we waited. I had haddock and chips with curry sauce. My wife had battered sausage and chips, she was very satisfied with her meal. Both were very good portions Here's another good tip, we told staff it's a pity they didn't have a seating area and the lady pointed out they had an agreement with the public bar, called Queens Head, next door where we could take our meal in there to eat it, just buy a drink which we did and bar staff made us welcome. Remember to do the honourable thing and take your empty takeaway boxes and wrapping away with you.
