When I checked into the room on Monday 9 June,|My first impression was shock at how small and filthy it was, with stained carpets and chipped furniture. |Then I saw that the loo was full of feces. Yes completely full. |I was trying to come to terms with these two facts, when the power tools started loudly with noise surrounding the room. Construction going on all around the room and they had not told me this… it was loud and disruptive. ||It is standard practice to:|Warn guests that the hotel is under construction before they arrive. |Clean the loos. |Charge for rooms according to size and standards (£400 a night is not the right charge for tiny stained and filthy rooms) |Place a hold on a credit card but not charge in advance unless the client is paying for an advance charge room (with the accompanying discount) |Let people cancel on 24 hours notice when that is the fare they paid for..|And that does not mean keeping their money under the above circumstances. ||The hotel charged me in advance and without warning over £2000 more than a week before I was due to check in … I had not bought a pay in advance reservation, but a fully flexible one with a 24 hour cancellation policy. ||I first tried to give 24 hours notice that I would leave on Tuesday, |But when I met with the manager on duty, he said he had no authority but to charge me this entire 5 day amount, because I had already checked in. How perverse. |Also why have a manager with no discretion?||In fact, I did not even stay for the 24 hours, but left immediately as I didn’t feel safe in that hotel. |So i have now not only been double charged for Monday night — as I could not stay there and had to find another hotel— but they continue to hold over £2k of my money on Amex. ||The fact that no one from management has written me back since Monday or suggested any resolution, is...
Read moreI stayed for one night mid-week. The hotel is in a lovely location. The area is quiet. My room was at the back of the hotel which I always prefer. The staff were very welcoming and willing to help if needed for local recommendations etc. |I’d a classic king room. I was pleased not to have gone for anything smaller. The bed was really comfortable but I am not convinced it was king sized. The room was otherwise lovely - clean, nicely furnished. The bathroom, though again small was really nice. The Molton Brown products were appreciated! My only complaint about the room was how hot it was even though it was cold outside and the radiators were not on. The air con was ineffective and noisy. Opening the window didn’t really help. I’d not want to be in there in the middle of a hot summer. |Breakfast was included in my room rate. It’s all table-service so no buffet to choose your own (or go back for second helpings). The menu has many options for all palates and requirements. I’d hit the dining room at peak breakfast time, so whilst staff were lovely, service was slow and felt a bit stressed. We didn’t get everything as we had ordered it but it was still delicious and certainly not worth complaining about. |Overall, a pleasant stay and a shame it was only one night. I’d...
Read moreThis boutique (no lobby) hotel is in a great location. One of the better in our 45 years of going to London. The tube stop is a 5 minute walk and the District and Circle lines will get you where you want to go in central London. The restaurant is also quite nice and a good value when added to your room. Our disappointment was with the rooms themselves. We had two rooms during our 6 day stay, one interior and one exterior. The interior room was actually noisier than the one facing the street. Maintenance was our biggest problem. It took two days to get hot water after asking twice. We had the same experience with other broken items in the room. We never did figure the heating controls out. It was below zero on several nights and the thermostat would revert to 20, regardless of the number of times we tried to set it higher to warm up the room. Also, believe it when they say a Cozy Room. If you’ve ever been on a river boat cruise you will get the idea. The front desk staff were also on the grumpy side but the servers in the restaurant were friendly and efficient. We would consider giving this hotel another try for...
