This has to be the worst "High Level" restaurant I've ever been too - let me elaborate....
Myself and my business partner, (we work 2 minutes from the location and noting the price list we have not been), took two new clients to this establishment.
We ordered 4 steaks . Our Muslim guest was impressed by the halal menu - the compliments stop here.
We ordered 3 beers and a coke while we were debating over the vast menu. We then ordered;
Canadian Ribeye - medium rare X2 Canadian Ribeye - halal - well done 350 fillet - medium rare Two fries one Japanese crinkle cut fries for me (which were nice) mash spinach mushrooms (with red wine and shallots - no sign of either in the dish) (came from a can)
We got;
Candian Ribeye x2 Blue Canadian Ribeye - medium rare - for the medium well guy - who i presume had a special halal one Fillet - blue.
After complaining (3 steaks were blue) - all were taken back - (BTW YOU ARE CHARGING 50 a steak - surely having an experienced chef should be a prerequisite?).
Obviously the sides remained as did the sauce - so when the steaks came out again they were cold ( we got an extra spinach and awful mushrooms - not to do the restaurant down).
At this stage the waitress told me "dont worry we will take a round of drinks off - this was a waitress I had to apologies for disturbing when i asked her for more drinks, (we were the only table in the restaurant), I told her it "was ironic".
The steaks were taken away and "to be cooked correctly"
Marvelous - im trying to impress my clients -thanks
The steaks arrive;
Canadian Ribeye - medium rare X2 - -arrive rare Canadian Ribeye - halal - well done - arrives medium 350 fillet - medium rare - they got there
3 of our steaks were unfinished - which is unreal as the quality was amazing
When i asked for the manager I got a guy with his hands in his pockets wearing a t shirt saying "sorry I'm the operations guy what do you want me to do - i gave you a free round"
I told him what i wasn't paying for and what i was not - he brought me the bill - it was still £150 - OMG
I will never go here again unfortunately as we work 2 minutes around the corner and like to support local business.
If i was invited for a free meal I would consider if it was worth my time and effort.
The most embarrassing place to bring new clients. If ever a restaurant needed Gordon Ramsey ...
Read moreThe service was friendly overall, helping us put our jackets away, seating us straight away, and giving us a wine recommendation with the lamb. The atmosphere was slightly off-putting, the room being quite cold. There was some music playing in the background, though very quiet and still uninviting.
The food was average for the price. It was our first time trying, with quite high hopes being it a "high end" restaurant. Presentation of the dishes were nice, aesthetically pleasing. However the food itself did not mirror its plating. The Lobster Bisque was okay, bit salty, but nothing amazing. Scallops over cooked, quite tough. The oysters were fine, though you could find the same quality of oysters elsewhere for a bigger quantity. The Tuna Tartar was nice, again nothing amazing. The crab cakes were quite bland with a lack of flavor and seasoning. The Parmesan chips were just your everyday chips with some cheese on top, the cheese did not stick onto the chips nor was it enough. We had a couple of the veg sides (mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower and spinach) and they were nothing out of the ordinary for vegetables. The rib-eye was cooked well, slightly under seasoned, but it was just like a normal steak. Truffle sauce was fine. The burger was just another burger you could get anywhere. The lamb was one of the better mains, tender and flavorful. Grilled Blue Diamond Prawns did not have a very fresh taste, the head was very black and gritty. The mashed potatoes were arguably the best dish that we had. The food came out generally lukewarm, borderline cold at times. It did not come out in an orderly manner, some mains came out without the sides. We had to remind our server about our missing sides about three times throughout our meal. They did give us a portion of chips, complimentary and appreciated by the table.
Overall the experience was average, wait staff are kind and helpful though the food did not mirror its...
Read moreIt's not often we find a restaurant worthy of such a high quality review, however TDQ is one of the most sensational restaurants we've visited in a long time.
The quality and attention to detail of everything is second to none. Whether it be the time, effort and money spent on the interior design and furnishings, the special spirit cooler custom built to remove the risk of waterborne disease from the need for ice cubes, or perhaps the beer chilled in its own walk in cooler, thus delivering beer directly to the pumps at 1-2 degrees.
Staff were new and excited to see and talk to the guests and get to know what they desire, but were clever enough to know when to provide space. The manager has perfected the restaurant following his first offering Toro Dorado which has been running for 25+ years in Amsterdam.
Then we come on to the quality of the food. We tried both the steaks and some fish courses and can vouch that the quality far far surpasses that found in some of Central London's top restaurants. Some equivalent Mayfair restaurants should understand they now need to up their game or people will take the short car journey to what may seem an odd location for such a high end restaurant. But the riverside location is both clean and beautiful and worth the short trip to try somewhere new.
If you read our other reviews, you'll know it's been a long time since we got this excited about a new restaurant opening. We'll be visiting whenever we have an evening to spare and needless to say, this'll be at the top of our must visit list.
Congratulations to all of the team and well done for perfecting everything to ensure we were provided with some of the best quality food and surroundings we've experienced in a very long time. Look forward to dining with you again...
