A true gem in the heart of Hammersmith, the Blue Anchor is a welcoming haven that perfectly captures the essence of an English pub. From the moment you step through the door, you're enveloped by a warm and inviting atmosphere, with traditional décor, exposed brick walls, and a friendly buzz that instantly puts you at ease. Our visit was a prime example of the pub's exceptional service. Despite our oversight in not confirming our reservation, the staff handled our situation with grace and professionalism, finding a table for us within minutes due to a last-minute cancellation. The Blue Anchor's menu is a testament to its status as a classic gastropub. We indulged in their signature dishes, starting with the braised beef with bourguignon sauce, which was melt-in-your-mouth tender and infused with rich, savory flavors. The cheese mash potatoes served alongside were a delightful accompaniment, adding a creamy indulgence that perfectly complemented the beef. My girlfriend opted for the classic roast dinner turkey, which was a towering spectacle of culinary delight. The turkey was cooked to perfection, juicy and succulent, while the cranberry sauce brought a burst of tangy sweetness that balanced the earthy flavors of the roast potatoes and carrots. As we savored our meals, we couldn't help but admire the pub's enviable location right on the banks of the River Thames. The ambiance was enhanced by the gentle lapping of the water against the riverbank, creating a tranquil backdrop to our dining experience. The Blue Anchor is a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of traditional English hospitality and cuisine. With its warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and exceptional food, the Blue Anchor is a true gem that will leave you wanting more.

I used to love coming to The Blue Anchor for Sunday roasts – it was genuinely one of my favourite spots in London. I even wrote them an amazing review in the past (which I’m now editing), because today’s experience was extremely disappointing. The service was shockingly poor. We waited over 1.5 hours for our food, with no apology or update. By the time it arrived, we were starving and too frustrated to enjoy it – and the staff didn’t seem to care. We had our 11-month-old baby with us, who naturally got restless during the long wait, but again, there was zero consideration from the staff. To avoid more delays, we pre-ordered dessert, but they only put the order through after we finished our mains. When we explained this, one of the waitresses simply didn’t get it – we weren’t trying to be difficult, just trying to avoid waiting another hour with a baby in tow. When we cancelled dessert, teas, and coffees, the staff acted like they were doing us a favour by not charging us – as if they hadn’t just wasted our afternoon! Honestly, after that experience, they shouldn’t have charged us for lunch at all. We left disappointed, frustrated, and with our Sunday ruined. Defo won’t be coming back!

Absolutely stunning pub with wonderful views of the Thames and Hammersmith bridge. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and was served in 10 minutes despite it being a busy Sunday afternoon. The fish and chips was lovely, not usually a fan of batter but the batter here was done perfectly, no sickly oily sensation after eating it, just crispy and thin bliss. The chips were pretty good, not exactly chippie style but for a pub I'll give it a pass (characteristically over crispy chips) and the mushy peas really were delicious. My bangers and mash, very good gravey and sausages were delightful. The mash was decent though personally I like mine rich in butter and cheese. Those 2 plates came up to 38 pounds. Glasses were nice and clean, had a good range of drinks. Couldn't see if they did cocktails though. The staff was lovely and welcoming. The decor was charming with plenty of outdoor seats and a quiet dining round the back. Toilets were very clean, for a pub, which is always a bonus albeit small.

had my mum's 70th here, and it was truly lovely!

very few places were happy to accommodate our group of 13 (adults and kids) with any kind of private area on a Sunday (without paying through the nose). however Drew (the manager, i believe) sorted a private area at the back for us no problem (and for free!). and from then on nothing was too much trouble... i asked if we could put up a projector and screen and dim the lights - "sure" i requested non-Sunday menu platters for my guests - "i'll check with the chef" (he said yes, food was lovely, homemade sausage rolls in particular were fantastic!) i called just two days beforehand and requested a table for 4 for lunch first - "done" we turned up late and with 5 instead of 4 - "no problem" halfway through our gathering i needed a quick off-menu dessert rustling up for my fussy mum and a glass of bubbly - received them both within minutes

we were assigned a waiter at the start for our day (Ocean - great name, lovely guy), yet we were served rapidly by several lovely staff throughout the day, all very smiley and super helpful any time we needed them. i really can't praise them all enough for making my mum's special day absolutely perfect!

VENUE: cosy but comfortable with nice decor inside, great seating area outside overlooking the river. also a beautiful little restaurant upstairs with even better views.

STAFF: in case you missed it...BRILLIANT! so friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, unobtrusive, patient (despite the kids under their feet!) and professional.

FOOD: i can only comment on the Sunday menu, but our roasts were absolutely fantastic (great pork crackling btw!). platters were also great.

DRINK: i only had one beer (wheat beer - nice!) plus champagne (did the trick), but i had no complaints from anyone else.

PRICES: it's London, it's not cheap, but for the location and service it was well on par.

thanks so much, Blue Anchor! whoever's in charge of wage rises, i'm wholly unofficially awarding...

Dear Blue Anchor Pub, We would like to share our experience during our recent visit to your pub. Firstly, Blue Anchor Pub holds a fond place in our hearts for its picturesque riverside location, and we were delighted to choose it as our venue for a significant event. Reserving the venue in advance was an absolute breeze, owing to the commendable assistance of Laura. Her informative and accommodating nature made the process seamless, for which we are extremely grateful. However, our visit to the pub on the day of the event wasn't quite as anticipated. We arrived promptly at 5pm and encountered an unwelcoming series of queries immediately. An individual, possibly a manager, seemed uninformed about our reservation, the setup discussed with his colleagues, and the tab system. This left us surprised and a tad disconcerted. Further, the room we had booked appeared in a state of disarray, presumably from an event that concluded at 4pm - an hour before our arrival, we didn't expect this lack of preparation. In terms of service, there was a noticeable shortage of personnel on the floor. However, we do want to specifically recognize Will (hopefully a correct name), who did a fantastic job despite being the lone bartender on duty. His efficiency, resourcefulness, and top-notch service left a very positive impression on us. We paid a sum of...
