Do not bother with this establishment they discriminate instantly. Myself and my partner visited here tonight for the very first time considering we have lived in the area for 27 years and on recommendation from our a friend it was our first visit. We stood at the window at the door and looked in via the window to see if our friend was in there which he was. We then greeted him and then sat at the bar and ordered our drinks and myself and my partner spent the remainder of the time there enjoying our drink. On sitting there we see a community notice board above the bar which was very endearing. On enquiring to the apparent male manager (who looked homeless with aggression) what it meant we were heard with aggression from him who told us we didnāt need to know what it meant. We were shocked by this and was completely confused by his behaviour, we brushed this off then we asked the female manger on our interaction with her what it meant and we were also shocked at her response we asked why, she responded we were being weird from when we were outside to being inside of the bar, even though she was happy to take take our order and money she then decided we were being loud according to other customers which is completely untrue and I find offensive. We advised her that our friend was in the bar we wanted to see and she proceeded to advise we were not welcome and walked away. We are completely offended and were made to feel ostracised because our face didnāt fit. We were genuinely impressed by an endearing post they had displayed above their bar which we simply asked what it actually meant. I can only imagine Iām not the face, gender or race they are wanting in their establishment. I definitely donāt recommend....

The Charlotte Despard is a true port in a storm ā a warm, welcoming haven with just the right amount of edge. Itās everything a modern pub should be: laid-back but lively, with a refreshingly unpretentious vibe.
The drinks menu hits the mark, offering a well-curated selection of craft ales and lagers. And if you're peckish, youāll be spoilt for choice with their almost comically vast range of savoury snacks.
What really sets this place apart, though, is the atmosphere. It draws a loyal, diverse crowd of locals and stands out as a rare example of a pub where women genuinely feel safe and comfortable. The long-running Tuesday quiz night is a local institution, and the pub plays a quiet but important role as a hub for community events and meetings.
If you're after a proper pint in a place with character, community spirit, and a bit of rebellious charm, The Charlotte...
