🚇 Archway 🍺 £3.80 Fosters ❤️ A simple locals pub that’s had a recent refurb. . The Whittington Stone sits at the bottom of Highgate Hill and is just a short walk from Archway tube. Outside the pub you will find Dick Whittingtons stone of which this pub bears its name. . This post war pub was built in the 60’s at the same time as the Girdlestone estate which is located at the back of the pub. The architecture here is classic estate pub which nowadays is not such a common site as many estate boozers poured their last pint a long time ago. Inside, the decor is modern, cheery and has a slight Wetherspoons feel to it. This is a good size one bar pub which is set out in an “L” shape with plenty of seating. There are comfy intimate booths which have small TV’s and there are a few large TV’s located around the walls., this pub also has a pool table. . I visited on a Sunday lunchtime and the pub was packed, the atmosphere was lively and upbeat. There was a good mix of clientele in from families to workmen young to old, this pub has a local pub feel to it. The Guvnor here was constantly on the go serving, cleaning and keeping everything ticking over, clearly a man who is passionate about his trade. . The beer choice was limited and I decided on a Fosters which isn’t a regular choice of mine but it was a decent pint and under four quid. There’s plenty of food on offer at reasonable prices. . The Whittington Stone is a local community hub which also looks after the less frequent visitors too. This pub is simple, comfortable and welcoming. I had a nice experience here, go check it out for yourself. . 📊 Information correct on...
Read moreMy dad, who doesn’t speak English, visited this pub recently and ordered two beers. He paid for them via card and even showed the successful bank transaction. Despite this, a female bartender approached him later, embarrassed him in front of his English friend, and insisted he hadn’t paid. Even after seeing the payment on his phone, she said it was a problem with their system and made him pay again, promising the first amount would be refunded the next day. The refund never came. I visit this pub almost daily, so I asked about it the next day. The girls at the bar were extremely rude and dismissive, saying, “you’ll get it within 5 days.” No apology, no effort to help.
Today after 2 weeks I went back with my dad and politely asked again. One of the girls at the bar completely ignored me. When I asked again, she turned her back on me and said, “Not to me, babes. Speak to the office,” without offering to call a manager or give me any contact details. Extremely unprofessional. The only person who showed any respect was the tall guy with the big beard (didn't catch his name sorry) he listened to us, was very polite, and genuinely tried to help. Thank you for your good customer service.
Unfortunately, the other staff members that we dealt with were rude, dismissive, and completely unfit for customer service. We still haven’t received the refund.
Avoid this place , they don’t take accountability, and if there’s an issue with your payment, you’ll be ignored and...
Read moreI’m writing this on behalf of my student who is on a study abroad trip. “Horrible customer service... as I walk up to order my food, just food, the man I believe to be the manager refuses to take my order without an ID present to prove I am over 18 (I am 19 years old). I go out to get my ID and come right back, at this point my friends that I was with have already ordered. When I get back I show him my ID and my birthday and he walks away to help someone else. When he comes back to me, he says they are no longer serving food. I told him he had seen me with my friends and served them but would not serve me and I got my ID just to order food and he continued to refuse service to me.”
I understand that the kitchen may have closed by that point, but the general rudeness with which this person conducted themselves with her, combined with his total lack of communication that the kitchen may close soon and he couldn’t guarantee food service, is honestly unacceptable. There are so many wonderful dining and drinking establishments in London and Highgate-why bother coming here when staff feel justified in treating potential customers...
