šĀ Camden Town šŗĀ Ā£7.30 Asahi
The Constitution is located in the backstreets of Camden Town overlooking Regents Canal. The nearest Tube is Camden Town, itās a five minute walk to get here.
This pub was built in 1858 and used to be part of Agar Town, a place that no longer exists. This former Courage pub suddenly closed in 2020, which was such a sad loss to the local community and beyond. The pub remained dormant until March 2024 and reopened after an extensive refurb by new owners Youngs.
The refurb has brought in many changes since my last visit in 2018. The whole building has been revamped from a working class boozer to a high end and very stylish public house. There are three bars with the main bar located on the ground floor. The servery has been relocated to the rear to make a spacious bar area at the front of the pub. If you head down stairs there is a cosy cellar bar with a faux old world feel. If you head upstairs there is another bar with a rooftop terrace and retractable roof. One of the main attractions here is the patio beer garden over looking Regents Canal.
The beer selection is decent and offers a good choice of familiar beers and included four cask ales. I decided on a pint of Asahi, my pint was great, price point was north of seven quid. The food menu is elevated pub classics, Fish & Chips costs £18.50, Roasts are available on a Sunday.
I arrived mid afternoon on a rainy Tuesday in May. The pub was quiet so I had a good mooch around the check out the new refurb. The atmosphere was chilled, there were a dozen or so punters dotted around the pub. The service was excellent, the chap who served me was welcoming and courteous.
As I sat pondering my visit and quaffing my pint, I reflected on how much Camden has changed. I first started drinking around this manor in 1990 when Camden was an edgy part of town and full of surprises. The Constitution is a beautiful and stylish pub that reflects how much Camden has been sanitised. I would definitely recommend a visit but I much preferred the character of the old boozer.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have visited the Constitution twice in the past months. Based on the great food and experience we had then, I decided to take my visiting family from abroad here to celebrate my birthday. I booked a table a few weeks in advance.
When we arrived, it was quite busy. The person behind the bar mentioned that I had to go upstairs, where I was approached by a male member of staff.
After he got a few chairs for the table from downstairs (as the actual chairs were taken by a large group next to us), he only mentioned that we had two hours to eat, and that he needed the table after that. I felt this was very unwelcoming. The member of staff did not greet us in any other way.
Whilst we had dinner, the member of staff appeared to be quite moody and was unfriendly. I did not feel at ease. Due to the fact that the place was incredibly busy at the time, with multiple small tables having many people around it, it was very difficult to have a conversation.
The place seems great to go for a drink on a nice summer day, but is unfortunately not the place for a sit-down dinner and catch-up (which is a pity, as the food is fantastic!). Although I usually prefer to speak to staff directly when something is not right, I felt that this was not possible at the time, due to the attitude of the person that was serving us.
I was very disappointed for spending my birthday here. The experience was very rushed and we left after our main course and one drink. I may come back at some point for a drink, but would not really come back anymore to have dinner in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell having given a previous review I can honestly say that was short-lived! Since that review, 3 of the Barmaids played the Witches of Eastwick. Zoe & May and tonight Penny, the 1st 2 got flirty & then cried about Their pathetic situation just to get attention & later completely ignored me & the fact I consoled them (No! Defenitly Not Slept with Them!) 3rd, Tonight I told a Barman There was No light in the Gents Toilet, 90 mins later I used the same toilet, being an only one. Nothing had been done to put any light in, It was practically Dark. On going to the bar I questioned the same barman I'd reported the problem to, He just shrugged his shoulders & said he had no idea. When I asked what he was going to do about it, Barlady Penny - Head Barmaid, said she didn't like the tone of my voice, so I said fine give me my bags I'm leaving. Now many friends of mine & others have also complained about DIRTY GLASSES & having sore throats. In fact not long ago they run out of clean Pint glasses! A little unusual I thought in a busy pub (even if unknown) Well my final rating on this pub is 1 in the unlikely event anyone will use this as a Pub, Entertainment, or Eating place. (Everything edible is Jerk Chicken or Goat! Choice?) It's Unhygienic & Rude Dismissive Staff. So to the Public DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME VISITING "THE CONSTITUTION PUB" ON St Pancras Way...
