Addendum subsequent to owner's reply: I appreciate the comment and reasoning. Maybe other customers are slow to move when requested, after having said they would like I did, and that in turn frustrates the staff. One can also understand the reluctance of staff to acquiesce to something they shortly earlier had refused another customers. That is not something a subequent customer can, logically, be aware of. Additionally, I requested a 2 chair table, not a larger table because the one I was told to sit at by the stairs has most customer/staff traffic right by the table. It was NOT a matter of size. In any event I specifically said I would be there 5 to 10 minutes no more. Rarely do I encounter such obstinance in a cafe when few people are around, and it is rather improbable that it would fill up in 5 to 10 minutes. The coffee may be unusually delicious but that does not compensate for lack of such minor accomodation, imo, to a customer's request.
Original Review: I came in for a coffee after my plant purchase early on a Sunday. Few people were there that early and most tables were unoccupied. Yet I was told, instructed even, to sit at a small table immediately by the stairs. I asked if I could sit elsewhere and am absolutely willing to get up if the table is subsequently required and that at most I'd be there 10 minutes. I was told 'No, you have to sit here!' Not willing to accept such rudeness I left. It is a shame that Camden Nurseries has a café tenant who has no manners commiserate with their own friendly...
Read moreA most lovely brunch dish here in a quaint café above a garden centre, decorated in a traditional style with old furniture, antique books and with peaceful music in the background. I found the venue on Google and was surprised when I arrived at the entrance to a garden centre off a residential street, but undeterred embraced and I am so glad I did.
This seems to be a place that locals 'in the know' go for a catch-up with friends or a quiet morning with family. It was a refreshing experience to have a venue that wasn't overly commercialised and where the staff and other clientele seemed to show each other mutual respect, were willing to engage in conversation, and where time slows down a little to enable the experience to be enjoyed while reading a book or a newspaper. This is a desirable and unexpected contrast to the typical commercialisation experienced in London in which food venues of a similar size and quality are so often transactional, focussed on high turnover of tables, expensive experiences with limited human touches.
I ate on a Sunday when the venue was reasonably quiet around 11am. Service was prompt and efficient from the kitchen and drinks service, and they very kindly topped up my pot of tea in the price I'd paid. It is clear that great care has been taken to design a menu incorporating ingredients of the highest quality and care in sourcing, and this is to be commended for the price, which was not unreasonable for London. I was able to relax here for some time and enjoy a peaceful morning. Highly...
Read moreI write this review to tell you about the plus points but also a little where I felt let down. First of all a warm welcome by the 2 lovely ladies, plenty books to read and effortlessly stylish cafe. Took a raspberry lemonade with ice and the lady who served it to me was lovely. (Next I ordered a sourdough with rubbed tomato, and garlic on toast. I've eaten this in many Spanish restaurants, so expected that I would be able to see the vibrant color of crushed tomatoes on the bread. The attached picture is what I got at first. When I mentioned this the gentleman gave 4 mini cherry tomatoes. I feel for what I paid £5.50, I actually got garlic, herb and oil on toast, and the addition of 4 small mini cherry tomatoes was not the right portion, also it was not clear Was I supposed to cut those 4 tiny tomatoes and rub them on the toast? ) At this point the situation was embarrasing. Was I supposed to mention again all the above points? I didnt feel free to do so. when I went to pay I expected the gentleman to ask me if I was happy or not, but he didnt ask, and I just left feeling short changed. I will know next time just to order drinks or...
