The bakery has been here many years, produce is baked fresh. I went to primary school around the corner.
It is also worth pointing out that this is only their 2nd sub-5-star review, so maybe it was a bad day.
I went in for a pastry, bought a cream donut. Paid a very reasonable sum (š) stepped out and took a bite. It was stale. I popped back in, let them know, they offered another pastry in exchange, I asked for an almond croissant. The almond croissant was as dry as any croissant I have had- over baked. No moisture left whatsoever. It cracked loudly when bitten into. There was also no almond paste at all in the centre. Maybe they just make it this way. Disappointing.
I didnāt return the 2nd pastry out of embarrassment: who goes back for a ANOTHER replacement?
Their explanation for the cream donut was that the air in the refrigerated unit the donuts were in to keep the cream fresh made it stale. They donāt want to cover the donuts to avoid spoiling the aesthetic, they said. So thereās a problem there- it is undeniably stale. This was at 11am, they havenāt even been there that long.
Cover the donuts to prevent them becoming stale. You know itāll work, I know itāll work... maybe in the boxes they are eventually served in?
In summary To their credit, they were happy to replace the stale food, but not without telling me WHY it was stale as if I should accept this as an explanation. If it is stale, you shouldnāt be selling it. And to have it replaced with another disappointing pastry? I...

In the heart of the high street is this quaint, cosy, family run bakery, that will give Nero and Starbucks a run for their money.
Situated opposite Costa (yeah the big boys tried to open up shop to run them out but the community still stayed loyal to the Royal Bakery).
You will find the most delicious savoury pastries, decadent cakes and desserts and full meals. They have so much on the menu and all of their food is 10/10.
My usual is the Chicken sweetcorn and chicken breast bagel with butter and limited salad, pair that with a lamb sausage roll, homemade jam donut and countless other combinations.... food coma.....

The people who work there were also all so nice, to me and to everyone who came in while I was drinking my tea. It had a really warm...
