Racist and Abelist manager Sylvester.
My friends and I go to the ealing Wetherspoons quite often and have never had a bad interaction, however last night we had our first encounter with the manager of this chain. My friend (South African Woman ) ordered her drink and then got asked to show ID, she proceeded to show her valid Citizenship card which proved her age (18, 19 this December) and they did not approve it. She then explained how she has a chronic illness and cannot apply for drivers license since her CFS prevents her from applying for a provisional. The employee explained how they do not accept this as it is identical to a “university student card” which is not a valid form of ID ( despite a legal requirement of going to university is being 18.) After snatching her drink away and not listening to my friend explaining how she is disabled the manager then got involved. This is where the racism and ableism began, Sylvester then proceeded to point to my friends curly hair and whisper so the body cam would not pick up “ people like you shouldn’t be here.” Our friend came back to the table in shock, couldn’t belive the thing she just got told. Our waitress came over with the manager, she was a young woman with mouse brown hair and she was one of the only workers that showed us any sympathy or remorse, it was evident that the manager takes his anger out on the other employees probably on minimum wage trying to make ends meet because she was very distressed and uncomfortable around him. He then came over to us and I tried to explain to him the severity of this situation, explaining how our friend is disabled and physically cannot have another ID, he could see her crutches and still was so agressive and verbally abusive. He said to our friend “ if you’re disabled you shouldn’t be in places like this” she then broke down in tears and he did not care, then asked ONLY her to leave dispite knowing that 2 of us were under 18 ( as it was only 6pm and we were still welcome, but had to leave at 9) The police was threatened to be called on us. I have never been more disgusted by anyone, upon further research this is not the only time Sylvester has been complained for ableism and racism. One report that an Asian man was denied a glass of orange juice because he did not have ID.
I found this experience so disgusting and my friend is so hurt by this discrimination from Ealing Wetherspoons, going against the Equality Act 2010. This treatment is very ironic since the sign on the door explains how “ not every disability is visible “ yet to discriminate our...
Read moreI would like to make a complaint about the meal which myself and my partner had today as we were very disappointed with our meal and the fact the staff didn't seem very bothered. The chef also hadn't made an effort to even get our order right. I ordered the Fiesta burger as I am a vegan and saw the burger came with salsa, guacomole, peppers, courgettes and onion. The burger came out COMPLETELY dry with no sauce, guacomole, salsa, peppers or courgettes. It came out as a burger on a dry bun, with one lump of onion and a tomato. This was very disappointing. It also stated on the menu that it came with 6 onion rings and it came out with none. Just a dry burger with a few chips. My partner had the halloumi burger which didn't come with onion rings therefore I ordered onion rings as a side for her. These didn't come out either. As soon as the food came to the table I told the waitress that the onion rings were missing x 2 lots, she apologised and said she will look into this. She then forgot therefore I went over and asked her again, she told the man behind the bar who rolled his eyes like this was an inconvenience. Our onion rings then eventually came out after we'd finished our meal. I was going to tell the waitress when she came back with the onion ring about my burger not being what was advertised however she didn't return until after we'd eaten otherwise the food would have been cold. The lettuce on both of our burgers was also brown. We have always eaten in Wetherspoons and been impressed by the quality, efficiency and the price. However today we felt let down and like we wished we'd eaten elsewhere where the chef and staff cared more about their jobs and making high quality meals, or at least serving what's advertised on the menu. I have complained and requested a refund. I have taken pictures of my meal, the dry burger, the brown lettuce, the menu and a screenshot of my transaction on my online...
Read moreDrink prices are fantastic and their drink promotions are as well. I love going 'Spoons for Fri /Sat night drinks, and this place is no exception. However I recently went for lunch with a work colleague and ordered the Empire State Burger Meal, with normal back bacon replacing the very very bland Maple Cured. When I was served my meal, the "chef" had put raw uncooked bacon in the burger, still fridge cold. Not sure how you forget to cook the bacon.... Anyway they took it back and after 15mins either the same one was returned, with the bacon now cooked or a new one prepared. Who knows. The Guinness I had with it was lovely and was very reasonably priced as well. You can't beat their value for money on drinks that's for sure. The burger though, absoloutely devoid of all flavour and seasoning, how was it possible I asked my colleague. Beef when fried or flame grilled has natural flavour, so the only explanation we agreed is that they have gone for the cheapest supplier who has used cheap/poor quality beef mince to make the patties. I must say though that other customers seemed to all be ordering curries (it was the Curry Club that day) and whilst I can't vouch for the taste, they did smell nice. Still though I imagine it's no better than a Tesco...
