Made the mistake of stopping not just for a drink on a very hot day, but decided to treat myself to a salad meal, which itself started @ 13£ + which I felt was overpriced. However, by the time I had made the MISTAKE of adding a couple of simple extras, the price had rocketed to 27.34!! Even if all the Locals earn 1000£ pw & might not care, I felt the charges were unjustified. = 5.50£ for 4 chunks of plain bread & Olives! when a LOAF would be about 1£. I am not a drinker but 3.10£ for a small bottle of non-alco beer stunned, & I asked for A side sausage, got 2 - @ 2.50£. The sweet chilli Chicken Salad was delicious, & the Service polite, but with those prices I am annoyed that I failed to notice that the Service Charge was Optional.# I was tired & had worries & not in the mood for queries, but I feel highly unlikely to visit again. Disappointed.# I could buy 2 weeks Groceries for 27£. Shame, I was once a local.# I will take out Sandwiches in future, & drink water.# State Pensioner# All things considered, I think I might not have found myself the lone diner, had the price been quite fairly about HALF. No wonder McDonalds food prices are so popular.# I am a Writer, only modestly successful. One has to Budget.# Perhaps it could have a Pensioner Menu?# - or is that not 'Trendy'?#...

Poor, slow service given it was very quiet. Honestly the worst Yorkshire pudding I have ever tasted in my life, doughy and flavourless! Small portions on most dishes and overpriced. They also just didn't bring two things we asked for (fries and water for the table) but staff were the opposite of rushed off their feet. When said fries (apparently truffle - subtle hints of truffle at best were evident) were eventually served they came in a very small bowl and cost £7.50 which is the definition of overpriced in my humble opinion.

To top it all off they add a £1 charity donation half way down the bill which looks like they are trying to hide it? Wasn't told about it and we had to enquire about it ourselves. I am a charitable man but I don't like being tricked into giving and then made to feel slightly guilty when I enquire. I know it's only £1 but it's a point of principle I feel very strongly about and would strongly urge the pub to reconsider the way this is applied.

Also, extremely strange/ moderately depressing music playing the majority of time we were in there which probably...

★★★★★We recently celebrated our mother’s 100th birthday at The Spencer, and it couldn’t have gone better! From the initial planning stages (with Meghann, with Market Taverns) to the event itself, the entire team was outstanding. Lee was incredibly helpful in coordinating drinks and logistics, and on the day, he, Tim, and Luke ensured everything ran smoothly. A special shoutout to Luke, who frequently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed and kept an eye on drink levels—his attentiveness made a huge difference. The buffet was beautifully set up, and the food was fantastic—many of our guests commented on how wonderful the event was. A huge thank you to the whole team, including the kitchen staff, for exceeding our expectations! Highly recommend The Spencer for any...

Lower Richmond Road local here. Came in today with the hope of sinking a few pints and sampling the menu since the new takeover. However, the chef in the blue crocs proceeded to walk into the outside seating area, look at me reading the menu and then gob the biggest ball of phlegm on the floor next to me, then 2 minutes later tread in it. If he acts like that when customers can see him, god knows what he does in the kitchen when the customers can’t. I necked my pint and got the hell out of there. Sort it out guys. For context, I’m a group executive chef for a pub chain in SW London and that behaviour is disgusting from any member of staff, let alone a chef.

An unexpected pleasure on the walk back to Kew from Putney. Stopped in for a break and a pint and ended up at the picnic tables in the commons adjacent. I can’t speak of the food other than the smells and the envy as it passed by me to other hungry folk. The pub was clean, classically decorated and even had great natural light. Superb for outdoors in summers and cozy for indoors at winter. I had a pint that was warm and flat like I prefer and the staff was very helpful. Will stop again in the next walk and perhaps I’ll have a nibble as well.

I have visited and eaten here for a few years now and love it. In the summer you can sit out in the Common. Staff are very welcoming and attentive, great menu, fab selection of wines, beers and spirits. I tend to visit early afternoon while it's quiet. I have noticed they have recently given it a bit of a makeover and a clear out, looks brighter and lighter. Such a relaxed environment defiently worth a visit.
