🚇 Tottenham Court Road 🍺 £6.00 Guinness ❤️ A shrine to all things Guinness. . The Toucan is located on Carlisle Street just off Soho Square in the heart of Soho. The nearest tube is Tottenham Court Road. . This building has had many uses over the years which include a Greek Restaurant, Disco, Club, Basement bar, Café and Sandwich bar. Back in the 60’s rock legend Jimi Hendrix once jammed in the basement here. . The Toucan came to life in 1994, the owners at the time thought there was a lack of good Guinness in central London, they decided to set up a haven for Guinness enthusiasts to get a proper pint of the black stuff in Soho. . This tiny pub/bar is set over two floors. At ground level there’s a small bar with a servery on the right. Downstairs in the basement there is another bar which has a proper Soho pub feel. Throughout both bars the walls are covered in every type of Guinness memorabilia and promotional material ever made, there are even little Guinness stools which were great. . The beer choice is good and there is a great selection of Irish Whiskies. I was here for the main event and ordered a Guinness. As it was St Patrick’s day and the place was mobbed, the pints were being served in plastic glasses which was understandable considering the amount of punters here for the black stuff. I have to report that the Guinness was excellent, really creamy and my pint hit the spot. . As mentioned earlier, I visited on St Patrick’s day and you could hardly move in here. I managed to find a Guinness stool in the basement and took stock of my surroundings. The atmosphere was superb and the place was in full swing. Outside was packed also with punters enjoying a lunchtime stout. . @thetoucansoho was everything I hoped it would be. Those who remember Soho of old and the vibe that surrounded it will find a sense of that here. The Guinness was excellent and lived up to its billing. If you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate St Patrick’s day, this place has got you covered. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreI've just had (most of, didn't finish it) the worst pint of Guinness I've ever had. Truly awful. The bar person poured two sitting flat to just over halfway. I asked specifically if they could pour me one properly please, they said sure and then continued to pour to the top and handed to me. Pathetic. It is really busy, loads of people outside but relatively quiet at the bar. This place is taking advantage.
In response to the reply:
I was not given a fresh pint at all so either you have been given wrong information or you are creating something to paint a picture but I would be shocked if there wasn't more than one dissatisfied customer, so maybe just confusingme with someone else. Part pour is fine, but that doesn't mean set the pints on the drip tray, turn on the tap walk away for thirty seconds and fill to the top - which is what the server did. What is pathetic is the servers reaction, they didn't care what they were serving, I specifically asked to have one poured properly please, they had no idea what the problem was - so your servers either don't know or don't care. Either train your staff, and maybe take a look in the mirror, or close. You have nothing to be proud of, and the arrogance to say that says alot, I left an unhappy and never returning customer - the Toucan obviously has very low standards. You are taking advantage of an unsuspecting public - Guinness can travel find to London, but show it and your customers some respect, but given your response I...
Read moreBeen there this afternoon with a few friends and am still shocked by the way we were treated. I don't normally write reviews (specially bad ones) however this time I feel obliged. We were gathering outside the pub (some friends were still inside) and the approach from this senior looking person (maybe manager or even the owner) asking us to move was absolutely appalling, to the point of starting an argument with us because we were being inconvenient. Working for hospitality I understand sometimes you need to remind customers to move around and this is your time to shine when running your business: Not what you say, but how you say! And definitely arguing with customers shows absolutely lack of prepare and utter disrespect. Note: the Pub was empty! Such a shame that a lovely place like this one (and I am a big fan of Guiness myself) can be ruined by the attitude of people who simply do not know how to deliver. But it gets worse: To my amazement when checking the reviews online some replies for negatives reviews are still full of mockery and sarcasm. So if anyone decide to send me a reply I would appreciate a sincere apologise instead for all the embarrassment caused today. Never felt so unwelcome and will not be...
