This is a busy little pub tucked away on the corner of Clerkenwell green, we picked this pub because of their reputation for good pub grub, particularly the Scotch eggs, and we weren't disappointed.
The food was uniformly good .one member of our little party had the chilli and was pleased with his choice, however the majority indulged on the range of scotch eggs and they were eating fast and enthusiastically , I thought they tasted fantastic. My favourite was the black pudding laced scotch egg.
This is a proper pub, its small and perfectly formed and they seem to make a mark of doing certain things well. It's not really the prettiest or brightest pub and the interior is a little drab, however despite this somehow adds to the ambience which was excellent on the night I went.
I can see this being a great summer evening pub with people spilling out on to the quiet street in front. the only small point is that the range of beers is a little week, if they had a larger selection or more eclectic selection this would be an ace boozer rather than just a...
Read moreAnother nice pub that has been ruined. The new decor has stripped any character it once had - what a shame. Looks like any other naff pub in London now. Used to be my favourite pub in London. Won’t be back. I keep reading the same comment about failing the fire assessment and that a lot of work went into the refurb. I think that’s completely missing the point. The refurb is awful…like actually terrible. I honestly thought it was a Wetherspoons or something similar. It now looks like every other pub in the area. Actually scrap that it’s far worse. It once had something special - that’s now gone. It’s truly a real shame - it’s not about taking off a bit of newspaper, there was history and charm to the place. That’s been totally stripped out. The thing that made it nice, has gone. So now you’re left with a horrible pub in a good location. And that’s about it. Horrible. Depressing. What...

Saw the decor change mentioned in the reviews and I certainly understand the disappointment for anybody who previously experienced that. However, as the owner explained, changing it wasn't really a choice and it's still a fun pub with a friendly staff. The one-star reviews in light of something they had no control over are disheartening. We sat in a corner table by the window right underneath the spire of the church on a lovely night and enjoyed the food and drinks immensely. The service was excellent and a blistering Saints performance only added to...
