2nd May 2025 Cost: £15
Not quite fully resigned to an M&S chicken and bacon sarn stuffed full of Maccies chips for tea on the Stansted Express - particularly after quite a veg-light and calorie-heavy week - but very much cognisant of the next morning's 4am alarm and therefore the pressing need to get to my crumby airport hotel stat, I had a quick Google and saw a reasonably-priced and well-reviewed "Cantonese roast meat specialist" joint within minutes from Liverpool Street Station. Yes, this will do.
Three Uncles had dozens of low-to-the-ground red stools, all full; half a dozen workers slicing crispy ducks behind a counter; a tantalising menu of meats and dim sums; and a very patient lady taking orders at the heart of it all.
"I'll get the two meat combo, what would you recommend?" asked a punter. "We've got duck, chicken, pork what do you like?" "Can I get dark chicken and pork please?" "So you want the three meat combo?" "No, two meat." "So what do you want - duck, chicken or pork?" "I'll take the dark chicken and pork." Etc etc
On account of the scarcity of available red stools, I took my order into the pub next door to ask if I could eat it there.
"That smells amazing, is it from next door?" "Yeah, have you been?" "Yeah, all the time. What did you get?"
I had gone for a two meat combo too - duck and crispy pork - served with pak choi on rice, with a side of chilli oil.
"Nice. It's a solid eight."
I sat down and stuffed my face with that solid eight - possibly the number of seconds it took to finish what was a very generous portion - and am now very happily ready for my crumby airport hotel bed. Yes,...

I've been to Three Uncles once and I was impressed with the quality of the food. The roast duck and crispy pork belly rice are perfectly cooked and the skin was crispy. The flavours were seasoned perfectly and captured the very essence of Cantonese roast meats. Excellent, with tender meat and a flavourful soy sauce topping the meat and rice.
Overall, I've had a great experience at Three Uncles. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Cantonese roast meat meal.

Auntie at the till upsold me and everyone else in the restaurant the curry fish balls. I said no to the extra sauce. I tried to say no to the fish balls. However through her friendly and persuasive persistence, she broke me down and I ordered them. My son and I enjoyed those fish balls, draped in rich mild curry sauce - reminiscent of Hong Kong street food. Great job Auntie.

Meats & rice were delicious as last visit too.
I enjoyed my meal, it tasted authentic and very close to a rice box you would get in Hong Kong. I got a 2-meat combo, roast duck & crispy pork belly on rice. Sauce for the duck was very tasty, texture of the meats was great.
The one downside was that they had no drinks for sale but also did not offer tap water. When I asked for some tap water, they asked me for my own water container and they didn't have any cups or jugs of tap water. Another patron had a similar conversation with the staff member after me.
I understand the need to lessen single use products, but there should be something in place when there's no drinks for sale. The jugs of tap water and cups don't need to be single-use.
Everything in the restaurant is based on 'take away style' and everything is thrown away after you eat.
It wouldn't take much to leave some jugs of tap water and cups for self-serve in the small dining area.
The food itself is rich so it was less enjoyable without a drink, so a heads up to anyone going to this branch, bring...
