TRIVET â A Remarkable Culinary Experience Worth Every Second
Visiting Trivet is not merely diningâitâs embarking on a spectacular journey of flavors, artistry, and exemplary service. From the moment you step into this elegant yet inviting space, everything is perfectly designed to make guests feel special. The atmosphere strikes an ideal balance between modern sophistication and a relaxed warmth that lets you settle in and truly enjoy the experience.
What sets Trivet apart, beyond its exceptional food, is the impeccable customer service. Every single staff member was attentive, warm, and knowledgeable, creating a seamless and personalized experience from start to finish. The service felt intuitive; staff seemed to anticipate our needs before we even realized them ourselves, which is a rare and deeply appreciated skill in fine dining. Huge commendations to the team for the level of care and professionalism exhibited throughout our visit.
A special shoutout to the sommelier, who went above and beyond in their role. They provided fantastic guidance to help us choose a wine pairing that complemented our dishes beautifully. For my wife, their recommendation was perfect and added an extra layer of depth to the overall meal. As for me, I opted for the Pu Er Sheng 2007, and I can confidently say it was one of the most unique beverages Iâve had in recent memory. The earthy profile was fascinating yet refreshing, and it stood out as a drink experience I wonât soon forget. Truly outstanding!
Now, letâs talk food: the Morels dish alone is worth the visit, an absolute masterpiece. From the presentation to the delicate flavors layered throughout, it was mind-blowing; you can tell tremendous thought and care goes into every detail of this dish. I would happily return again and again just for this creationâitâs that good. If you visit Trivet, this should be at the very top of your must-try list.
The venison was equally brilliantâcooked to perfection and showcasing the Chef's incredible skill and understanding of balance and flavor. The quality of the meat and its accompanying elements harmonized seamlessly, resulting in a dish that was both comforting and refined. Every bite was bursting with flavor but never overpowering, which speaks volumes about the precision in Trivetâs kitchen. Every plate that graced our table reflected thought, passion, and absolute mastery.
Beyond the magnificent dishes, itâs clear that the genius in charge of this restaurant deserves special thanks. A heartfelt thank you to the Chef for curating such an unforgettable experience. The combination of creative dishes, perfect execution, and bold yet comforting flavors proves a love for the craft and a dedication to excellence. Whatâs more impressive? This isnât just a one-hit-wonder; you can feel that every element of the menu is held to the same, incredibly high standard.
At Trivet, youâre not simply having a mealâyouâre participating in a celebration of flavor, technique, and impeccable hospitality. Whether savoring extraordinary food, sipping on perfectly chosen wine, or chatting with their exceptional staff, every aspect of the evening is flawlessly intertwined to leave you feeling deeply satisfied.
Final Thoughts? Trivet is the kind of restaurant youâll find yourself dreaming of long after you leave. Itâs refined yet approachable, innovative yet grounded, and simply unforgettable. From the stellar service to the world-class dishes (particularly the Morels!), every visit feels like a special occasion. Five stars truly donât do it justice. Iâll be back again and again.    Read moreTrivet is my favourite restaurant.
Itâs the incredibly rare place that does everything well. It has a fabulous bar where you can sit down for a drink with a colleague, client, or friend without needing a booking. You can come for lunch and have a great meal in an hour-ish or you can hang around all afternoon. You can come for a special occasion or treat it like your neighbourhood place.
Okay. They also have two Michelin stars. And writing a review that says âTwo Michelin star place is really good,â doesnât exactly justify the cost of your (free) subscription.
So letâs start with this: Trivet is the only two star place in the London area that doesnât offer a tasting menu. That sends a message.
Still, itâs two Michelin stars, so itâs not exactly cheap eats.
Ah, but if you go for lunch, you can choose from an accessible menu of delicious treats including incredible coq au vin. Or you can plan to linger and dig into their full a la carte menu of two-star caliber delicacies. My favourite on the current menu, which changes seasonally, is the sweetbread, available as either starter or main. The venison and âBest friend of white burgundyâ (eg: monkfish) are also both extraordinary.
Or you can go on Monday evening, when Trivet becomes Labombe, a neighbourhood wine bar concept offering fantastic by-the-glass selections and epically good bar food. The Tongue Bun is one of the best things Iâve ever eaten anywhere, and the fries with homemade onion ketchup are potatoes in their most perfected form. Labombe is so good that thereâs usually a gang of sommeliers and staff from other restaurants enjoying their night off.
The vibe is Trivet is both chill and modern. On a summer day, massive doors open the space up to the outside world. Thereâs a comfortable terrace. Beautiful wooden tables and chairs require no cloths.
And then thereâs the wine.
Wine boss Isa Bal is a genius. He was named best Sommelier in the world a couple of years ago by Michelin. And his list is the best. Make sure you take a minute (or twenty) and have a read through it. Then hand it back and let him and his team pick your wine. They have a particular specialism in regions that are sadly a little unusual for us including Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Syria, and Lebanon. You will not go wrong.
Isa founded Trivet together with Chef Jonny Lake. The two met while Jonny was the head chef at the Fat Duck and Isa was head sommelier. That history will always be part of their resume. But they have moved well past it now.
By managing to be perfect for a special occasion or as a neighbourhood favourite, by providing two-star caliber food or the best meal youâll ever have at bar, by serving great classic wine or helping you discover something entirely new, and by offering the most generous service youâll experience anywhere without a hint of pretension, Trivet is a truly great restaurant in its own right. And Iâd much rather spend an afternoon there than at the Fat Duck.
Iâm pretty confident that...
Read moreAfter some initial excitement around the time Trivet opened back in 2019, it seems to have largely flown under the radar. I have to admit I didnât give it much thought until intentionally looking for a new fine dining venue for a dinner outing with a friend. Having been to the majority of the 2 and 3 star restaurants in London, this was one of a handful of remaining options yet to be tried out.
Trivet positions itself as a casual fine dining concept and this felt accurate based on my visit. Apart from offering an a la carte menu (a rarity in this category) the venue itself felt quite laid back, e.g. there was no dress code, with a few of the male diners wearing shorts for a Saturday dinner. We didnât have the best of starts as we arrived on time but our table was not ready until 30 minutes later. Once seated however, things moved along more efficiently. We had a nice view of the open kitchen from our centrally located and generously spaced table.
The two of us tried the drunk lobster and veal sweetbreads to start, followed by the lamb and duck mains, with girolles and fries on the side. For dessert we tried the strawberries and the butter tart. The food was generally of a high standard, although some items were not quite as good. I thought the noodles accompanying the lobster were marginally undercooked (less than al dente), despite the lobster itself being very nice. Both main courses were quite enjoyable, but the fries were somewhat ordinary and I was disappointed by the dessert selection in general, as it was all rather light (no chocolatey option for example). We also had a bread basket to start with and while tasty it would have been so much better if it was served warm, especially considering it was a chargeable item.
Service was very friendly. Ultimately they did apologise for the delay in seating us and proactively comped the round of drinks we had while we waited. That said, compared to other 2 star venues I wouldnât say the service stood out, it was more casual in nature (in line with the venue I suppose).
The bill for our dinner came to ÂŁ440 of which ÂŁ125 was spent on drinks. That works out to ÂŁ135 per person excluding drinks and service, which is definitely at the more affordable end of 2 star restaurants in town, and I should point out the portions sizes were comparatively generous as well. Overall I did enjoy the meal, but it didnât really feel like a fine dining experience. I think it all comes down to expectations. If you go in expecting a traditional 2 star meal you may be disappointed, but if you forget that and just go for a pleasant dinner in a nice setting with friendly service and not too excessive pricing, then it does tick all of those boxes. That said, I donât see the need to rush back - after all there are no shortage of other restaurants in London meeting all of...
