A very enjoyable visit to Wagamama on Ludgate Hill — professional, quick, and consistently tasty.
The location is easy to find, with a wide, clearly signed frontage. The inside atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with modern music playing at just the right level and a nice balance between background chatter and personal space. Even during busy periods, it never felt overwhelming.
Service was a highlight — I was greeted promptly and warmly, offered a drink right away, and served by a team that was both attentive and knowledgeable. I appreciated how quickly they responded to my glances without hovering, and they handled allergy and dietary queries with confidence and clarity.
Food arrived fast (as expected at Wagamama), starting with piping hot chilli edamame, well seasoned and generous in portion. My chicken raisukaree came at the same time — as always, fresh and familiar, with only one slightly tough piece of chicken. Presentation is consistent, and that’s a comfort for returning customers.
Cleanliness was good overall, though not perfect. The table and cutlery were clean, and the visible areas were well maintained. However, I did spot some food remnants under my seat and on the floor nearby, which made me hesitant to fully relax. That said, the rest of the space felt tidy and cared for.
Pricing is what you'd expect for central London — a little high on extras like alcohol (£8 for a large beer) and edamame (£4.90), but balanced by a very reasonable £16.50 for a filling main. A huge plus is the 20% discount for Blue Light Card holders — a generous touch that deserves recognition. Also appreciated: no automatic service charge. Tipping was entirely voluntary, which I respect — and I had no hesitation leaving one for the excellent staff.
Accessibility may be limited due to a small set of entrance steps, so those with mobility needs might want to check in advance about ramp availability.
Overall, this Wagamama branch delivers a consistently high standard with efficient service, fresh food, and a comfortable dining environment. I’ll happily return and recommend it to others — especially anyone looking for a quick, quality meal...
Read moreThe food was good, but the atmosphere at this restaurant may take some getting used to for some. It might be a place better suited for dining with friends or family versus by yourself.
The seating is arranged in a banquet-style where several guests sit next to each other at a long table. This should be fine if you are sitting with a friend or group of friends. However, I was sitting by myself in a busy restaurant, and eventually, another solo guest was seated almost directly across from me. Everyone was pleasant, and the tables were fairly wide, so this was not uncomfortable for me, but it may be something you consider before choosing this restaurant. Also, with everyone being in close proximity, you definitely will not have any private conversions, for sure.
The service is also more like a quick service cafe where there is very little interaction with a dedicated server. Then, you pay independently on your phone and just leave. Again, there was nothing wrong with this, but it may be confusing and awkward for some people. I'm often frustrated at US restaurants when it takes forever to flag down your server when you're ready to pay, so I actually prefer self-checkout options at restaurants.
Lastly, the food. If you are not deterred by any of the atmosphere or process "quirks" of this restaurant, then it will be easy to enjoy the food. I had zero complaints. The food tasted fresh and as if it was made with good quality ingredients. There is a good variety of options, so most people should be able to find something they would like. If you are put off by the atmosphere, then they do offer to go (or "take away") options, so you can still enjoy the food, which is...
Read moreI had been feeling a bit low today after attending a funeral and decided after a long day to grab a drink and a bite to eat, it had been sometime since I had visited a branch of the Wagamama restaurant chain and found myself heading into the St Paul’s site.
Once inside this centrally located in the heart of the City Wagamama I was promptly seated by Silviu and ordered the Hoisin Pulled Duck Bao (fluffy Asian buns) along with the Ginger & Chicken Udon, aaah what to drink at 2:30pm? A Sake Spritz cocktail felt just right!
I had forgotten that they don’t do starters in Wagamama and you should note that the food will come when it’s ready and not in any particular order. I know you are saying yes, yes we know all this but what both you and I did not know was the Amazing five star service that I was given throughout by every member of staff that I had the pleasure of interacting with.
From Jarek who took my order to Silviu who served me and checked that all was good without being overbearing whilst delivering a first class customer service experience, thank you for uplifting my day absolutely fantastic service.
A special mention must also go to Niki who not only served me the taste sensation dough-chi, which I was experiencing for the first time, she even advised me to wait 3 minutes for them to slightly soften before sinking my teeth into these gastronomical delights. I had two of the sherry, vanilla & yuzu dough-chi’s along with a coconut infused flavour.
Without a doubt the best Wagamama that I have visited in London, what are you waiting for get yourself...
