We were given a voucher to attend the new opening of this restaurant. It is based near the Canary Wharf shopping centre and is well connected to various methods of travel. The restaurant is upstairs on the first floor and can be entered via stairs or lift. There is a sink and hand cream outside for washing hands. The decor inside is spacious and clean. There are strong wooden accents with splashes of bright colours. The tables are made of nice wood and have nice chairs. There is a front-of-house station that is very chaotic. The lady at the station often vacated it to clear tables, help customers to tables instead of servers and assist the bar. We waited for a while and five people stood at the station at one point before seeing us. Eventually, we were noticed by the lady and told to wait around twenty minutes. This was strange as there was plenty of seating and this remained after our meal. There seemed to be a preference for reservations with little drop-in tables, but there was plenty of seating available. We were told to go to the bar and get a drink, but the bar staff said that drinks had to be ordered by the front-of-house station. This required another wait and made no sense as the station was often vacant. The lady could be seen speaking with servers to help them. We got seated after 15 minutes. Our server was Jose who had excellent customer service skills and would be a better fit for front-of-house. The food was a mixed affair with the sweet potato and nacho sides being good. The tacos were underseasoned and quite bland. The churros were quite heavy and not sweet enough. The drinks were average. The prices were average for London and the twenty-pound voucher softened the blow of a poor dining experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant in its current state and suggest going to other better places...
Read moreI’m truly disappointed to share that my recent order from Wahaca Canary Wharf, placed via Deliveroo, was well below expectations, marking a continuation of the decline noticed during our last visit to the restaurant itself. Historically, Wahaca has been a favorite spot of mine, prompting me to give it another chance despite a previous unsatisfactory experience. Unfortunately, this decision turned out to be a regrettable one.
Upon arrival, the food’s presentation was immediately off-putting, suggesting it had been neglected for hours before delivery. The dishes were cold, and the once-vibrant tomatoes looked as if they had been languishing in their container all weekend. The tacos, a usual delight, were particularly disappointing. Not only were they cold, but they were also dripping with grease, making for an unappetizing eating experience.
The visual aspect alone was troubling, but the texture was even worse, with everything seemingly soaked in a mixture of water and oil, which was evident from the photos I took upon unpacking the food. It’s disheartening to see such a lapse in quality and care from a restaurant I once held in high regard.
Considering the consistent issues both in-house and with delivery, I’m compelled to think twice about returning or recommending Wahaca, at least until there’s evidence of significant improvement. While I understand that delivery can sometimes present challenges, the extent of this decline suggests a broader issue that needs addressing.
PS: I must add, I didn’t even touch the food after seeing its condition—it looked as though it had already been eaten by someone else. Truly...
Read moreHad the most bizarre experience ever at this place when I visited the restaurant with my daughter for celebrating my birthday that ruined the otherwise great evening and excellent food.
My daughter handed over a box of cake as is typically done to bring it at the end of meal for celebration. After the fantastic meal, the waitress assigned who knew it was my birthday and wished me so got me Churros on the house for celebration. After that my daughter asked her to bring the cake at which she remarked, you bought a cake I.e. they lost track of celebratory cake. However the interesting part was when she did bring the cake, she bought the entire box exactly as given with the cake in the cardboard box, no candles, celebrations etc, Essentially there you go, your cake. What defies belief is the waitress and restaurant not thinking through why has a customer given them a birthday cake, no one told them to temporarily store it for us. It is no Tesco grocery or coat handed over for convenience, it's a cake !!. Of course it made no sense as the birthday boy ro demand they bring the cake back again with fanfare and my daughter was equally embarrassed to request the same.
My comments don't take anything away from the restaurant which otherwise served fantastic food for dinner in great ambience. Just that they need to think carefully about customer service for special occassions to avoid a repeat of this...
