I'm a local on bermondsey street and when the Watch House opened my wife and I were excited to try a new coffee shop. The coffee has been hit and miss depending on who is making it - one day it's smooth and one day it's burnt beyond drinking.
God forbid if you should ask one of the staff to redo the coffee! Today I asked for a ham and cheese croissant and was given a cheese and tomato croissant. My wife is allergic to tomatoes so when I politely informed the server she literally snatched (I use the word carefully as it denotes the childlike attitude she behaved with) from my hand. No apology, no "I'll have it with you straight away" nothing apart from a moody rude server.
It's a Sunday morning, I get it - no one wants to work Sunday's. But don't go out the night before and get drunk then be a miserable bugger at work. (I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt that she was maybe hungover - the alternative is that she's a rude Australian grump).
I'll be getting my two coffees a day from either Hej on Bermondsey square (they're all lovely) or Bermondsey coffee shop (where they're eccentric but great).
To the owner - fire the girl with glasses...

However, my experience took a bit of a turn. The staff seemed quite unfriendly. My friend had to ask three times about one of the choices on the menu before finally getting a short and irritated response from one of the workers. The other person working there at the time, on a Sunday afternoon (when we were in Bermondsey for the jazz event), didnât seem very warm either.
It was such a shame because the atmosphere and the aroma were perfect, but in the end, I decided to suggest we go elsewhere for coffee. I can still picture that wonderful scent in the air, but honestly, I'd rather have an average coffee served...
