Narrowly missed having an allergic reaction at this place. I am a vegetarian and have always been one. My partner is not. I am also allergic to seafood. I ordered the vegetarian Nasi Goreng, while my partner ordered a regular Nasi Goreng without prawns but with chicken. I'd ordered a coke while the partner ordered a whiskey.

One of the dishes came out first. The server said it was the veggie Nasi Goreng and placed it on my side of the table. I started to eat while we waited for my partners meal to arrive. When it did, the server paused, looked at both dishes and said that the one in his hand might be the vegetarian one. He double checked and confirmed that the plate in front of me had chicken in it. And casually swapped the plates - no biggie right?

We asked for the manager and my partner explained the situation to him. He admitted fault, apologised and asked what he could do. We refused anything as we just wanted to emphasise on how poorly this could have gone. If my partner had decided to get the prawns that day, the night could have ended very differently. And all this is besides the fact that they served meat to someone who explicitly ordered a vegetarian meal.

The manager's apology involved offering us more crispy rolls (which we refused) and then offering my partner a free drink (which also we refused). He puts one on the table anyway. While the punishment does not fit the crime to begin with, the irony is that all apologies and the "peace offering" drink were directed to my partner, not me. We didn't want it, so we left it untouched. When we paid the bill, the manager said he'd removed the service charge from our bill- whatever. And then asks my partner why he hasn't had the whiskey, and tells him "to not waste it"!!!

The food was subpar as is - bland, oily, greasy and lukewarm and garnished with a random dry salad. Save yourself the £15 (main course price), unless you want to put yourself through an overpriced, unappetising and potentially dangerous meal. Oh and some entitled, flippant service. Might not have been me today, but surely a lawsuit waiting to happen. And a whiskey won't...

Food: The lorbak was actually pretty good, but a bit too heavy on the cinnamon in the five space ratio.

This was maybe the blandest Char Kueh Teow I've had. It was under-seasoned (basically unseasoned!) and had no char or wok hei. The prawns, although generous, tasted like very low quality prawns and had little flavour. The eggs also tasted off and of poorer quality. Maybe find better suppliers? The beansprouts were undercooked for a ckt. They deserve some char too - it was served to us like a salad.

The laksa was too much on the sweet side and ends up being overly cloying. Again, generous with the prawns, but these are not great quality prawns. In terms of spice, it's a very bland laksa. Maybe increase the spice, or at least offer table-side sauces?

That said, the food portions were quite decent. The drinks were too small for the prices.

Service: Got a table quickly on a busy night, which was good. We ordered the above, and were told there was a minimum spend of £23 per person, and that we should order another starter, which we reluctantly did to take away, since it was already a fair amount of food.

There was absolutely no mention of a minimum spend anywhere in the restaurant or on the menu. If you are going to impose this, make it clear on the menu!

We also calculated how much we originally spent - it was 22.40 per person, and that's before service charges! After service charges, we had already ordered £25pp. Asking us to order another starter to make up the remaining 60p each is pretty petty service.

The takeaway roti canai we purchased to make up the minimum charge was again way too sweet and lacked spice (in the curry).

This restaurant, while clean and well decorated, is way too cramped. The waiter had to squeeze between our table and the next, his butt awkwardly pressing onto our table surface - we had to quickly shift our cutlery before...

Really wanted to love this place so I could have good local food near me, but didn't. Overall, very small servings for the price compared to other Singaporean Malaysian restaurants like laksamania.

Black pepper crab: we got the runt of the litter, black pepper sauce was slightly lacking in aroma. They provide gloves.

Char kway teow: really enjoyed this one. Wok hey was there, noodles were chewy.

Beef rendang: the gravy is more like a curry than a rendang in consistency. Usually Rendang is drier. Surprisingly, kiln does a better rendang than them, although they've labelled theirs a curry. The meat wasn't particularly tender. Usually it's meant to fall apart. I struggled to detect the galangal and lemon grass, it's just sweet. A very one dimensional, sad rendang that misrepresents the rendangs a of the world. Go to old Chang kee and get the rendang curry puff instead, even that is more like rendang.

Nasi lemak: chicken was a little dry on the inside considering it's a thigh and drumstick and not very crispy on the outside. Rice was strangely mushy. Another disappointment. I'm starting to sound like my Asian parents when they describe me to their friends.

Morning glory (kangkong) with belachan: everyone at the table thought this was really bland. Probably the worst dish. Could barely taste the balachan and they topped it off with fried onions to salvage the dish which was...I don't know, not belachan kang Kong.

If you're here, just order the char kway teow. Friend was also a little annoyed that waitress got crab gravy all over his jumper while serving the...

Bermondsey Street, London Bridge is bursting with really amazing food! Was walking down Bermondsey Street the other night and came across this Singaporean restaurant which I hadn’t noticed before. Intrigued by this new restaurant, we walked in and it was fairly busy, but not too noisy on a weekday evening. Was greeted by a friendly Asian waitress who showed us to a table at the front, next to the window. The owner later came to speak to us after the meal and he was super friendly and loved sharing his inspiration for this beautiful eatery. They had only opened for 6 weeks! All their ingredients came from Singapore and all the flavours are authentic! He said there was no point making something to suit western taste, as people go away on holiday and know what the dishes are meant to taste like, so it’s best to make it as authentic as possible! I totally agree!! So even though the beef rendang with rice was served with soy sauce and the beef was a bit dry, for our preference, we respected that this is how the people of Singapore has it! The chicken satay was so tasty! Full of peanut flavour and the chicken was so soft and juicy! The laksa had a generous amount of topping! Lots of prawns, fish balls, tofu puff… and the broth was so sweet and delicious! I could drink the whole bowl! They had a special of chilli crab with Chinese buns served Monday to Thursday which we were very tempted by, so will try next time! Cannot wait! Thank you for your hospitality!

We literally wandered into Sentosa on a Sunday having passed it by several times before. Surprise! Before I get to the food I must mention the ambience & decor - not a red lantern or gold-anything in sight! It is a lovely space with warm wood, a little industrial-chic, minimal, clean and Zen. We decided to return even before we had ordered!!! The waiting staff was efficient and polite as she took our order: we started with the fried baby squid (delicious on a bed of what tasted like salted fried onions) and a quartet of steamed veggie dimsum which appeared in jewel colours and piping hot. I highly recommend the fried squid. The dimsum needed a bit more oomph as finely chopped veggies didn’t give it full flavour. I’d have liked it garlic-chilly spiced. One main was the classic nasi goreng with prawns chicken and egg - tasty, beautifully plated and my guest said it was very tasty though I thought the rice serving could’ve benefited from a little generosity. My main was a big bowl of flat rice noodles in soup with fish balls and veggies. Delicious, comforting, steaming hot and perfectly light for a summer meal. I’d have preferred a wee bit more flavour in the stock/soup but the fish balls, greens and mushrooms made it the tastiest bowl I’ve eaten in recent times. Return to Sentosa with its Singaporean (in itself a happy blend of Indonesian, Chinese, Indian….) delights? A resounding yes!
