We always enjoyed eating here as the price of food is reasonable and the staff are really nice. We ate there when lamb ribs were just under £10 and then raised slightly to just under £12. We came today and noticed the price has gone up but decided to eat here anyway. That is, until today 2nd December 2022. As soon as we sat down, it didn't take long for the complimentary bread and dips to come. I noticed the waitress look at the bread, set it down on the table, take it back and then set it down again. I took a look and the bread was burnt, not crunchy or toasted but burnt. I pushed the bread away and the waitress asked, "you don't want it?" I said it's not that I did not want it but the bread was burnt. She muttered in a very loud whisper, "Well some people like it crunchy!". In my opinion, the bread was burnt as it had a black char. After a little while, she came back to state to my partner," You said there was four of you?". My partner said, " No, I said three" and showed with the number of fingers in his hand- 3 fingers up. She then answered saying that he said four! She then said," Oh, my bad!" in a very condescending tone. We just let it go at this point and tried to eat as our order has arrived. After dinner, I asked my daughter to go to a different waitress to order 2 Turkish teas. The rude waitress then muttered," you do know that you have to pay for them as it's only the first one that is complimentary!" We thought nothing of it as we used to come to eat before and we were always given 1 complimentary tea for each meal. It would not be a problem paying for 1 extra Turkish tea as my daughter wanted one and my partner ordered one previously. I asked for the bill and did a quick check to find that we were charged for 2 teas instead of one. Had the waitress not made us feel uncomfortable from the beginning with the comment for the ‘crispy bread’ and the way she commented about my partner saying we wanted a table for four, I would have let it go.
I asked the waitress (not the one that appeared rude) that brought the card machine to explain the policy with the complimentary tea – she stated that only 1 tea is complimentary. Slightly confused, I asked if a table of 7 had dinner, would only 1 tea be complimentary? She then said that is what she was told. I still kept calm and told her that their policy did not make sense. I then asked if the “rude waitress” was the manager to which she replied yes. I asked again if it was 1 complimentary tea per meal for each paying customer. She then went to the “manager” and came back to say that the bill will be a pound less.
For me, it was not the £1 but the way this supposed manager treated us. She seemed friendly enough with the other customers but why treat us the way she did? The other waitress that served as was really nice. We've been regulars at Woody Grill in Camden Town and have previously enjoyed the food and service. However, our recent visit was marred by an incredibly unprofessional encounter with a waitress. When we politely inquired about a special request for fresh kebabs, something we've requested in the past without issue, her response was shockingly offensive, stating, "You don't teach us our job here." We calmly explained our usual practice of making this request and emphasized that we meant no disrespect.
Regrettably, this unpleasant interaction led us to leave. Seeking to address this issue with the management, we asked the staff for a way to formally lodge a complaint. Surprisingly, we were informed that there's no website or email available for such feedback. Instead, a gentleman offered to provide another waitress for our service.
I sincerely hope this review reaches the attention of the owner. It's vital for the management to be aware of these incidents caused by new staff, which could detrimentally impact the reputation of this establishment. We came to the table, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands, when I sat down on a chair, there was one waitress already waiting for me and asking me if I’m ready to order (it was literally 3 minutes and I didn’t even have time to pick up a menu from the table). That’s not really the experience I would like to have. How am I supposed to order if I didn’t even manage to open up a menu… anyway I ordered the woddys special kind of thing. It looked okay, it was kind of a meat wrap sliced in smaller pieces and put on a plate like a sharing platter. I started with 2/3 pieces they’re okay, but when I tried the next one it has tasted like a dirty sponge with washing up liquid was squeezed all over the plate and my food.
