I wanted to take a moment to share my experience from my recent visit to your venue Myself and my 2 friends, attended the Teddy Swims concert on Monday 9th before heading to your venue. We often gather on Canal Street, and I personally have enjoyed visiting your establishment for many years whenever I come to Manchester. I noticed that one of your colleagues was mopping the floor due to what I assumed was a spill from another patron who was not in our party, this had happened just as we walked in. I am mentioning this as what I was accused of doing could have easily been someone else who committed this act and I was mistaken for someone else. We were enjoying the lively atmosphere, the music, and the DJ's banter. It was nice to see other staff members and customers joining in with us, creating a friendly vibe. However, my friend started to feel hungry, so we decided to step out briefly. My friends and I were outside having a vape before re-entering the bar when a female staff member at the door stopped me. She looked me up and down and, in a rude and cocky manner, informed me that I would not be allowed back inside. When I asked for clarification, she shockingly accused me of spitting on the floor, referencing CCTV footage that she has personally watched. I was appalled by this accusation, and my friends were equally shocked, as they know this behavior does not align with my character. I pride myself on being a polite and well-behaved individual who respects other businesses, and the claim that I would engage in such behavior is completely unfounded. To add to my frustration, I have a saliva phobia, which I explained to the door staff. Unfortunately, she dismissed my explanation without consideration. When I requested to see the alleged CCTV, the story changed; I was then told that an off-duty staff member had reported me and she hadn't actually seen me commit this vile act. This left me feeling even more confused and hurt, as I tried to explain that I was likely mistaken for someone else. Whilst I was calmly and politely trying to explain she had this wrong, another member of staff came outside who we have previously been having a giggle with inside ā The staff member was working on the shot trolley that night and we interacted for sometime ā so when this staff member came outside ā I explained the situation to them, they said Well I didnāt see you do anything but this was out of there hands. I of course was very upset to be accused of such a disgusting act. We were merry but all in control of our behavior and I remember every little detail of the evening When we first walked in, I went to the toilet and found another customers wallet on the floor ā I took a look at this ID and located him sat at the tables the windows with 2 other people and returned his lost wallet ā I am telling you so you can understand that I am respectable individual who cares for others and being a business owner myself, I have huge respect for business establishments. I have never once in my life been refused entry from an establishment nor have I ever been asked to leave ā it is just not in my nature to misbehave! I was unfairly refused entry for a false accusation I believe in maintaining open lines of communication and addressing misunderstandings, which is why I felt it necessary to bring this matter to your attention. I hope that you can review this incident further, as it has left a negative impression of your establishment. I am not sure what I want to achieve from this email but it is simply not fair that I was not given a fair chance when I did nothing wrong and this ruined our night and I felt your door woman embarrassed me and besmirched my character with this false accusation. I really do hope this is investigated with the door woman and she personally issues a formal apology ā I did ask for her name but she refused to give it to me and said she is the only female door staff so I wouldnāt need her name This incident took place around midnight on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTL;DR - have been going to this bar for 10 years. Last night we were kicked out for literally no reason, and was refused when asked to speak to someone about it. Completely ruined our final night of Pride.
I think the best thing I can do for this review is leave the message I sent to the venue after they ruined my night last night:
āHello.
We attended the pride closing night party this evening - as we do every single year. Tonight, toward the end of the show, one of our group of 3 was approached by a member of the door team and asked to leave.
When she asked for an explanation the woman told her that she had been instructed by the owner to remove my friend because she looked like she was āon somethingā. She explained that she was in fact, just a bit tired as she had been in work since 5am before then coming out to enjoy the final night of pride celebrations. There was no discussion, and she was told she was not welcome back into the venue.
I have been friends with one of the drag queens here for MANY years, and have been going to BarPop regularly, including every single pride weekend for 10 years. We have never had a single issue, until tonight.
We asked the door staff if they could explain what the problem was, but all they gave us was that the owner had asked them to tell her to leave, end of. We asked if we could speak to the person who asked for her to be removed, to which we were basically told to get lost.
While I realise that this will mean absolutely nothing to management, or the person who picks up this message, I feel the need to express it anyway: for 10 years I have LOVED BarPop. It has been a safe space for me and somewhere I felt I could let loose and be myself within the community I love most. Not only did the events of this evening ruin our final night of pride (which is usually always the one we remember most fondly), but had me in tears outside the venue because it completely soured my memories and my opinion of a place I loved so much.
I honestly canāt express enough how incredibly disappointed and upset I am by...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to come to this bar every weekend a few years ago but the situation we were in last night was absolutely shocking. We approached the doors to get in, we showed IDs and the 2 members of our party with bags were searched (my brother and his girlfriend). My husband and I were not searched as we had no bags. After this was all complete we were granted entry into the venue. Within 5 minutes my husband was grabbed by the security guard and told to get outside. When we all left the venue I questioned what the problem was (as we were really confused). They were not very upfront about what the situation was until the very unprofessional female bouncer pulled out a bag of drugs from her pocket and said that it had been found on one of our party during the search. As they grabbed my husband I presumed they were trying accuse him of possession (even though he wasn't searched on entry) but then with a very smug look on her face informed me that it was a female member of the party it was found on. I saw my sister in law get searched and this was not pulled out of her bag. When we accused the security guard of the false claim she got very defensive and escalated the situation by winding up members of the party which she seemed very pleased about and then she informed all other bars we shouldn't be let into other venues because of these false claims. If they didn't like the look of us for whatever reason and just didn't want us in the venue I would rather they just be honest. If you can provide CCTV of the drugs being found on one of our group I'll delete this review. I won't believe for one moment the owners of this establishment want the doors run this way and as the drugs definitely were not from us it also means the staff are in...
