Disappointing and overrated . Went here for an afternoon tea for my birthday. My mum rang up to book a few weeks before hand - this was also to discuss food options regarding afternoon tea - she was told not to worry and things would be sorted when we got there. When we got there to discuss the sandwiches and not having the mayo we were told we should have rung to pre-order which is exactly what we tried to do !!!! When we tried to explain this to the waitress we were very much shut down. The variety of sandwiches isn’t listed on the menu and there was way too much cream /mayo type ones ! Bearing in mind the cakes are very creamy alongside a cream scone - massive overkill ! I would have expected better thought regarding this from this group. The only none dairy type sandwich was ham and this wasn’t the best quality in comparison to other ham afternoon tea type sandwiches we have had .
The mini quiches, macaroons and scones were lovely but the cakes were not great. Way too sweet and also similar in texture. Needed something more fruity as well as something with a crunchier texture in the mix .
It is ridiculously over crowded and claustrophobic it is in there - way too many tables packed in. It was uncomfortable. The table next to us might have well been on the same table - couldn’t wait to get out afterwards and go and sit in the garden just to have that little bit of space.
The aesthetics in the main room are good but the theme isn’t as good as it could be - where we were sat didn’t have the Alice vibe with the decor . The tea pots and cups etc… should have linked better also. Would have loved to have seen some sort of nod to the Alice theme with the uniform as well - this just wasn’t present at all . Visited different Alice themed tea rooms that have done this better and charged less.
Very expensive for a disappointing experience when we had such high hopes. The Midland is a fiver more expensive but significantly higher in quality - book there if you want a lovely...

A chance to finally visit Richmond Tea Rooms with my friend came up and I finally crossed it off my “restaurant bucket list”. I am sure I’m not the only one who has one.
This was the last place I had on my list for 2023 and I am grateful I was able to go. The perfect way to end 2023.
We went for brunch date, ran really late and I was so thankful that the staff still accommodated us! Honestly one of my favourite part was the overall customer service 10/10.
We had the American style pancakes from the breakfast menu with teas for drinks. Perfect combo! I loved that we each had our own colourful teapots and I was tempted to grab a set for myself actually- they stock some in store. Alongside a large range of teas including some unique special blends.
Honestly the pancakes were delicious. I opted for the more savoury option and took my time to make sure I enjoyed every bite. I 100% recommend it!!
I also ordered the smashed avocado on toast and opted for scrambled eggs instead. I later had to ask for a takeout pack as I was too full from the pancakes. I had it later on at home and enjoyed it too.
The restaurant also does the prettiest afternoon teas- I am definitely going to make the time for another trip this year just for that. The ambience has the most beauty whimsical feel to it. I felt like Alice in the wonderland and trust me the pictures are nothing compared to the original.
In all, if you are looking for a magical escape in the city with amazing treats, creative drinks and tasty meals especially the afternoon tea… make that booking to...
Read moreThe sandwiches, cake and tea are okay. However, I would not recommend the rarebit as the mustard was too overpowering. Not disabled friendly as there is no wheelchair accessibility or ramp. The table we were allocated was broken and was constantly wobbling. Staff were made aware of this and there were attempts to fix this with napkins as we were informed the excessive wobbling was due to uneven floor. After investigation, the root cause was the main leg of the table was becoming detached from the stand. Staff were unable to relocate us to a different table as they said it our fault for changing the booking. When in fact, as a restaurant it is the restaurant's responsibility to replace broken tables/ensure there are functional tables. What is not acceptable is blaming the customers and brushing it off as not being a problem especially when customers have paid for this experience which includes using a table that is functional and steady to support the plates and cups. We did feel various members of staff who served us throughout the meal were passive aggressive from start to finish. When checking the bill, we were asked what the issue was and were told everything was on the receipt and were also asked if it was the service charge that was throwing us off. As feedback, I do feel the staff need customer service training to improve customer satisfaction and experience. Overall, food was okay, though I would not come back as customer service and attitude of staff definitely did not meet...
