Found this place on short notice, as I was due to get the train down on the announced strike day of October 1st.
The hotel is decent enough, with its select rooms. It was easy to find, in the heart of Manchester’s Gay Village and check-in was smooth. To check-in, ask at the bar and they’ll confirm your booking reference. They then hand you the keys and give a briefing on which keys are what and how to use them, as there’s at least two safety doors you need to unlock.
The room itself was OK, quite small but it’s not like you need a ton of space anyway. There was a double bed, tea/coffee making facilities but no milk (so buy some, if you take milk) - a minor complaint - a mini fridge, and lamp. There was hooks and a shelf on the other side of the room. Bathroom was nice.
Wi-Fi was perfect, I must stay. Held a Skype phone call for almost 17 hours until I hung up.
So, before I stayed, I checked out the other reviews and I believe this had been revamped/renovated since as you could see some wear/tear but it was nothing to get upset about. The door not fitting 100% into place was a little worrying, but nothing a good shove couldn’t fix.
It’s located above a bar and a night club, so it’s very loud, but you should know this when you book. They provide two sets of ear plugs, which is nice. They’re needed as the music continues until 4.
My biggest complaint was probably the bed, as I felt every spring. Not exactly Premier Inn, as I’m ironically writing this from one, but you get what you pay for. If I could ask for one thing to be changed, it would be a new mattress OR at least a foam protector.
Another minor complaint was that there was no lift, my suitcase was too heavy for me to lift all that way by myself, but it was fine.
Other than that, I didn’t mind the stay at all and would stay again knowing what to expect. I have stayed in much, much...
Read moreBooked this last minute and was a third of the price of hotels near Canal Street - but there's a reason for that.
Don't get me wrong as I can't fault the service and friendliness from the staff you check in at REM bar downstairs - the hotel is upstairs where you will be shown your room and given the keys for the doors. I have always experienced amazing service from the guys that work there, they're so friendly and eager to help and the cost of the room was dirt cheap too, but there was things that did let the room down that could be worked on to make it a really nice place to stay
Unfortunately the rooms are above a nightclub so there is music playing very loudly until 4:00 a.m. on a weekend, my bed of bricks was vibrating from the speakers below.
While the room looks nice it is very basic and the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The windows were wide open I couldn't close them, there was mould around the window frames and the cups were unwashed and had been put back without being washed. The shared bathroom was very basic, only one shower worked out of the two Bathrooms and that had a very very weak stream of water so it was difficult to get properly washed. There was also a lot of mould in the shower and a hole in the ceiling where there must have been a leak. The toilet also didn't have a seat and the plug holes in the shower did not have trap trays so you could see all the dirty water from the previous user.
But if basically want somewhere to rest your head after a night out on Canal Street then this will be suitable. If you want a bit more luxury then I would say don't stay here but you get what you pay for and I knew it wasn't going to be fantastic as I'd stayed here before. Definitely want to reiterate that the staff we're absolutely amazing and definitely the best aspect of...
Read moreMy experience of this place goes against those on here who've clearly had an off day experience in their lives when theyve stepped foot in Rem's (which I guess can't be helped and each to their own opinions).
I haven't encountered any rude staff (possibly slightly stressed, but again, life and being a bartender, drag act or manager or door personnel, etc, I'm guessing can not be easy at times).
From August 2023 when I stepped foot in Rem's (& present day) its been easy to talk with people, bar staff are friendly, easy going and if it becomes your regular when you venture into Manchester (like mine now) you become known to the bar team and other regulars....its a really nice feeling and Friday, Saturday and Sunday's for me when I'm over - it always delivers and makes you feel good to have visited.
Drinks are pretty averaged priced better than others on village-strip.
I cannot comment or give a star rating for the hotel part of the business as I've never stayed, so I can't rate the rooms, sorry.
All round good place to escape, and it's great to sit out if it's not too cold. It's a fab vibe when summer comes...
