We originally booked the Northern Quarter branch but got an email that our reservation had been moved to Deansgate due to the Northern Quarter branch closing until further notice. Closer to the reservation date, they also sent an email asking to confirm the booking.
On the day of the booking, today, we were running late and the receptionist called us to check we were still coming. I asked to shift the reservation a little later, and she very kindly obliged.
When we arrived early for the new booking time, we were promptly seated and our drinks-and-sides order taken.
The drinks and first round of sides arrived pretty quickly. After that, it was round after round of delicious food served be the very personable and attentive William and Carlos. They made sure all the tables in our area were well-stocked with various meats and garlic bread. At the end of the meal, they brought around some wonderfully cinnamony pineapple, which is always worth saving space for.
Although the staff members cooking and serving the meats seemed to work like a well-oiled machine, the rest of the staff weren't as organised. The staff members who weren't assigned to serve meat were very hard to get a hold of. I had to stand at the bar to order more sides because the ladies never even looked at the tables on our side of the restaurant. Then I had to stand at the bar to order a drink and to follow up on the sides that still hadn't arrived after so long. Then I had to stand at the bar to ask for the bill. When I went for the bill, there were people from another table trying to pay because they couldn't get a hold of anyone to pay either. We were all told to go back to our tables because we should have asked for our bills from there. It just felt like things could have gone better if someone were assigned to at least glance at our tables from time to time.
When the bill arrived, we'd been charged for four drinks instead of three. Fortunately, that was quickly fixed and we were able to pay and leave promptly.
In all fairness, we still had a nice time despite the difficulties throughout the meal. I think if not for William and Carlos, we might have felt like not coming back to this branch of Bem Brasil. But who knows? Maybe next time, the other staff will serve all tables instead of just the ones in their path to the other side of...
Read moreWe normally love Bem Brasil and have had many a good meal here, however because we've had such good meals here, you really notice it when it's not to standard. We came for a birthday meal with friends on a Tuesday night so the restaurant wasn't busy at all, a few couples and another large group. The first issue was that we were only offered one round of drinks in the two hours we were there, we kept having to ask about drinks which is unusual for a restaurant. We kept also having to ask for sides, some of which never turned up, same with sauces. We went for the evening menu however there were a bunch of items we never received (spicy chicken, cheese steak, garlic bread and chicken and bacon, to name a few) which was a real shame. We kept being offered the same steaks on repeat. At the end of the meal we decided to take the service charge of £40 off, because quite frankly we had paid for the evening menu but didn't receive the full menu, we had sides & sauces that were forgotten about and no offer of drinks throughout the meal so the service really wasn't up to scratch. Bare in mind that the meal itself came to £400+ without the service charge. As we were leaving, a couple of us were stood at the top of the stairs waiting for a friend who was in the toilet and we overheard some of the staff basically complaining, rudely, that we hadn't paid the service charge. I understand it might be disappointing, but surely the proper way to resolve that would be to ask the bill payers, why they weren't willing to pay the service charge and try to understand why they felt the service wasn't up to scratch rather than to stand slagging off the same customers who'd just spent over £400 in your restaurant? Very rude and quite frankly it's put all 9 of us off ever eating here again which a shame as we've all been frequent...
Read moreFirst of all, we were seated and then was not asked for around 15 minutes to even place drink orders, after this we ordered our sides which took 29 minutes, we then only received 3/8 sides we ordered. The sweet potato mash was stone cold nobody even came to replace that let alone give us the sides we were missing. The salt and pepper shakers had bits of meat on them, when I asked the waiter to change it he said ok and walked away from the table and we didn’t see him again. No check backs from the manager or waiters on duty to even understand we have an issue with our meal. The meat cutters who bring the meat around for you were disinterested and not friendly they often missed our table out even though we had the green circle showing we would like more. The meat was nice though.. when we did get it. After speaking to the manager about our experience he only apologised no discount on the order, just an insincere apology was given. For £65.50 taking into consideration the poor customer service we experienced I would definitely not go back. The waiter when we was paying apologised and asked if it was the first time we been here I told her it was. It was only then she asked if I want to get the rest of the sides and change the sweet potato by this time we had enough and we was already full off eating just meat. The meat was good but the manager managing the floor staff and handling guests didn’t have a clue what customer service/experience should look like and does not brief his team well enough to give the shift or restaurant direction (I work in this industry as a general manager) this is my view the outside looking in. A change is needed. I hope the restaurant see’s this and reaches out to me about...
